About Fort Pickens Campground

Fort Pickens Campground is situated on Santa Rosa Island, a part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore south of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, Florida. Visitors are drawn to the Gulf Islands National Seashore's emerald coast waters, magnificent white beaches, fertile marshes and historical landscapes. Come explore with us today! Each camp site offers a fire pit, picnic table, and a paved pad to park on. There are heated showers and flush toilets. We offer electric and non-electric sites. Many of our sites have restrictions from low limbs or bushes so be sure you will fit. Limited overflow parking is available but not guaranteed. Choose a site that will accommodate all of your equipment. You must be 18 yrs old to reserve a campsite.Campers may not stay in the campground more than 14 consecutive days. This policy is strictly enforced.Entrance fees are required for the Fort Pickens area and are good for seven consecutive days from purchase. Pets are NOT allowed on ferries, piers, in forts, batteries, pavilions, or inside any of the facilities. Cancellation fees and Modification fees are non-refundable.Pets are not allowed on any beach within Gulf Islands National Seashore.Cutting of trees, limbs, or branches will result in a fine and a non-refundable cancelation of all reservations.A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.

Of coarse the location is fabulous; on an island across the road from the beach. Having the Blue Angels practice right over our heads was a mid morning treat. My only issue was that 2 of the 4 showers were out of order sometimes creating lines waiting. Perhaps it couldn't be helped. I also wish that someday someone would re-open the camp store. Otherwise, it is paradise.

Another great stay at Fort Pickens.
Love the campground, primarily for the location and easy accessibility to great beaches.
The renovated bathrooms / showers were a pleasant surprise and it is nice that there are laundry machines and large dishwashing sinks available.
Next improvement needs to be the boardwalks out to the beaches. They are rough condition.

The facilities were very clean, the campground area was nice and tidy. Our area that we had to camp at was clean and picked up free of debris. There wasn’t anything broken. The campground host made regular rounds checking on everyone and was very polite. We had an issue with one person and once we reported it to the campground host they immediately took care of the issue and had it resolved. I will definitely be coming back to this campground for future camping and family fun!

My only complaint the brown rats around camping site are gross and carry diseases. This is not okay especially sickness they can cause in human. The rest is beautiful the water, camping site and fort was amazing. Sorry rats especially brown unacceptable.

The power hook up is too far from the concrete pad. You will need a least 20 foot cord to reach it. Wish they would put the power box closer to the pad.

This was our first time at Ft. Pickens and it couldn't have been better. We stayed at site E40. The camp host was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The campground was kept in spectacular order, as well as the showers and restrooms. As others have noted, show up fully equipped. The nearest store is a looooong way away. It discourages going out for trivial things (which I enjoyed).

  • Pets are not allowed on the beach, on the pier, in the fort, batteries, paviliions, or inside any of the facilities. 
  • In an effort to improve our check in process at Fort Pickens Campground, we have implemented a “straight to your site” process. * Staff will check you in during rounds – no need to stop at the campground office. Please have a copy of your reservation available for verification * Your vehicle tag will be attached to the post at your site. Please place the tag on your vehicle dashboard. If additional vehicle tags are needed, let the camp host know. Reminder - Campground regulations are sent to you through your email. It is your responsibility to read and understand those regulations. Campground hosts are present in the campgrounds to ensure an enjoyable stay and that regulations are followed. If you need park maps, vehicle tags, etc. please talk to your hosts.
  • ATTENTION: Delivery of RVs is allowed by companies that have a CUA (Commercial Use Authorization) only. If a company arrives at the entrance gate to deliver an RV without a CUA they will be refused entrance. For your own benefit, please be sure the company that you are renting from has a CUA with Gulf Islands National Seashore. 
  • When choosing a site through recreation.gov, your total length is the vehicle plus trailer or RV plus tow vehicle. Only one RV unit is allowed per site. If you choose a site that does not fit your total length, the Park reserves the right to cancel your reservation upon arrival, please read ALL restrictions posted at each site. All wheels, including truck or car, must fit in a line on the pavement at the site. ALL campers are limited to ONE RV (motorhome or trailer), one tent, and one vehicle, or two tents and two vehicles.
  • Campers can stay a maximum of 14 nights from March 1 through Labor Day (to include individuals, families, groups), and no more than 14 consecutive nights at any time of the year. A minimum two-night absence is required between camping stays during the off season (Labor Day through March 1), and the stay limits apply to ALL occupants. Campers are limited to 42 nights in a calendar year.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging. While the campgrounds at Gulf Islands have sites equipped with 20, 30 and 50 amp electrical service, our systems can not currently support the charging of electric vehicles.
  • Campground Rules and Regulations: It is your responsibility to abide by all posted campground rules and regulations. Failure to comply with these items may result in a fine or cancelation. You are responsible for measuring your equipment, reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate ALL your equipment fully backed in.
  • Generators are allowed in D loop only. Run hours are 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. (60-decibel limit).
  • ENTRANCE FEES are NOT included in the cost of your reservation. Gulf Isalnd entrance fees are $25/private vehicle or $20/private motorcycle, good for 7 days; annual passes can be purchased for $45. 
  • Gates close at sunset; registered campers arriving late; the entrance code for the gate is in your confirmation email.  
  • Do not hang/ string anything from trees (hammocks, lights, clothes lines, etc). Portable air conditioning units used for tents or outside are not allowed. Shower tents or portable potty tents are not allowed. Hot tubs and other non-camping equipment is not allowed
  • Golf Carts are not allowed in the Fort Pickens Campground with the exception of disabled persons accessing the restroom facilities. Use by any other persons is prohibited.
