Fort Pickens Campground

The campground is beautiful. I have no complaints. We stayed 2 nights and had no problem with noise. The showers provided are large and absolutely immaculate - except for a bit of dead grass in the drain. Being that my wife and I are both Retired Navy it was great to hear morning colors coming from Naval Air Station Pensacola both mornings. Haven't heard that for a while. Understand, you can't be in a hurry getting to and from town. The road from the campground to Pensacola Beach is 9 mi of winding wonder, 25 mph and 21 minutes. Slowdown, watch for bikes (and giant puddles if it's been raining) and enjoy the calm.

I cant believe there is that much untouched beach in Florida. Young man who was a park ranger showed me I had the wrong all Access card since I'm a disabled Veteran and issued me a new card said future camping would be much cheaper. I enjoyed the Fort self-tour the beautiful coast what's not to love

We have been going to Fort Pickens for years. The bathrooms have just been refurbished, sadly nothing changed but a paint job. No a/c, not enough shower water pressure to wash the sand off of you, sink faucets with times - not easy to use. It's much hotter in the bathroom or showers than outside, so you shower and are immediately soaked with sweet before you can even dry off.

Fort Pickens has excellent beaches nearby with easy access. You can drive to a beach access and be on the sand in just a few steps.
Camping sites are nice and level for the most part. However, they are generally short, so read the dimensions carefully. Sites are single width with no space to park beside camper. A loop is very tight and should not be attempted with any camper longer than 16 ft or so. It has a difficult turn with a tree right on the inside of the turn.
The dump station for loops B,C,D,E is a real problem. It has a 10" high wall all around the sewer connection, so hoses have to go up and over. There is no way for ground spills to drain into the sewer connection, so it is a messy dump station. The COE needs to modify this by removing the one wall and repaving ground surface to sewer connection.

By the way, one young ranger was extremely rude to us when we had a problem and needed help. Zero compassion, zero help.

Love this location with walking access to the national seashore. Beautiful!

Staff was friendly, campsite was clean. Great to see the Blue Angels fly right over the campsite! Would be nice to have a dedicated camp store. Seems like there is a building set aside for one, but it has never been open in all my times camping here. The camp store could have simple staples like soap, water, and firewood. This would be useful as the campsites is remote from the stores outside the park (part of why it is a joy to camp here!) .Otherwise, a great experience.
