About Fort Pickens Campground

Fort Pickens Campground is situated on Santa Rosa Island, a part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore south of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, Florida. Visitors are drawn to the Gulf Islands National Seashore's emerald coast waters, magnificent white beaches, fertile marshes and historical landscapes. Come explore with us today! Each camp site offers a fire pit, picnic table, and a paved pad to park on. There are heated showers and flush toilets. We offer electric and non-electric sites. Many of our sites have restrictions from low limbs or bushes so be sure you will fit. Limited overflow parking is available but not guaranteed. Choose a site that will accommodate all of your equipment. You must be 18 yrs old to reserve a campsite.Campers may not stay in the campground more than 14 consecutive days. This policy is strictly enforced.Entrance fees are required for the Fort Pickens area and are good for seven consecutive days from purchase. Pets are NOT allowed on ferries, piers, in forts, batteries, pavilions, or inside any of the facilities. Cancellation fees and Modification fees are non-refundable.Pets are not allowed on any beach within Gulf Islands National Seashore.Cutting of trees, limbs, or branches will result in a fine and a non-refundable cancelation of all reservations.A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.

I enjoy Ft Pickens campsite but some of your camp host lack customer service.
One camp host is rude; she is a bully and just does not care at all about campers.
I would highly recommend booking another loop other than C. Other loop’s much cleaner the camp hosts are visible and helpful. Unlike loop C.

We stayed at Campground A. Saying that, we arrived 45 minutes before checking time. No one was at our campsite so we backed in and proceeded to set up. Yet the campground person came up and said that we had to wait until 1:00 pm to park at the campsite. Mind you, we are a good 7-10 miles from town. The campground person told us we could drive down to the fort and wait it out. We were tired from driving all morning and it was hot. We were not 1 or 2 or 3 hours early. We were 45 minutes early. What does it matter to check in a little early when no one is at the site. There were no people at the site cleaning it or anything else. This was just petty!

Great experience, firewood not available at Fort Pickens, buy it before you go. Beaches were fun and beautiful. My grandson enjoyed the historical fort immensely.

Buildings on grounds and trails and beaches were fabulous. The sites were well kept, but minimal trees allow the sun and neighbors unlimited access to each site. Bathrooms were ok, but no hot water made the showers shocking, even on a hot night.

Peaceful environment, well maintained for a campground. One cavieat is there is no ice at the park so for tent camping you must either do without ice, drive 20 round trip to closest store, or get yourself a yeti. Overall experience was 9.5 of 10 stars.

The pedestal power had a brown out and it burn up our converter, gfci and air conditioning. The campground host said we should have used a surge protector at the pole because they had trouble with power drops in the park. Well we survived 3 days without power or air conditioning but left early as it was in the high .90’s. We also promptly cancelled our future reservations here in November.

  • Pets are not allowed on the beach, on the pier, in the fort, batteries, paviliions, or inside any of the facilities. 
  • In an effort to improve our check in process at Fort Pickens Campground, we have implemented a “straight to your site” process. * Staff will check you in during rounds – no need to stop at the campground office. Please have a copy of your reservation available for verification * Your vehicle tag will be attached to the post at your site. Please place the tag on your vehicle dashboard. If additional vehicle tags are needed, let the camp host know. Reminder - Campground regulations are sent to you through your email. It is your responsibility to read and understand those regulations. Campground hosts are present in the campgrounds to ensure an enjoyable stay and that regulations are followed. If you need park maps, vehicle tags, etc. please talk to your hosts.
  • ATTENTION: Delivery of RVs is allowed by companies that have a CUA (Commercial Use Authorization) only. If a company arrives at the entrance gate to deliver an RV without a CUA they will be refused entrance. For your own benefit, please be sure the company that you are renting from has a CUA with Gulf Islands National Seashore. 
  • When choosing a site through recreation.gov, your total length is the vehicle plus trailer or RV plus tow vehicle. Only one RV unit is allowed per site. If you choose a site that does not fit your total length, the Park reserves the right to cancel your reservation upon arrival, please read ALL restrictions posted at each site. All wheels, including truck or car, must fit in a line on the pavement at the site. ALL campers are limited to ONE RV (motorhome or trailer), one tent, and one vehicle, or two tents and two vehicles.
  • Campers can stay a maximum of 14 nights from March 1 through Labor Day (to include individuals, families, groups), and no more than 14 consecutive nights at any time of the year. A minimum two-night absence is required between camping stays during the off season (Labor Day through March 1), and the stay limits apply to ALL occupants. Campers are limited to 42 nights in a calendar year.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging. While the campgrounds at Gulf Islands have sites equipped with 20, 30 and 50 amp electrical service, our systems can not currently support the charging of electric vehicles.
  • Campground Rules and Regulations: It is your responsibility to abide by all posted campground rules and regulations. Failure to comply with these items may result in a fine or cancelation. You are responsible for measuring your equipment, reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate ALL your equipment fully backed in.
  • Generators are allowed in D loop only. Run hours are 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. (60-decibel limit).
  • ENTRANCE FEES are NOT included in the cost of your reservation. Gulf Isalnd entrance fees are $25/private vehicle or $20/private motorcycle, good for 7 days; annual passes can be purchased for $45. 
  • Gates close at sunset; registered campers arriving late; the entrance code for the gate is in your confirmation email.  
  • Do not hang/ string anything from trees (hammocks, lights, clothes lines, etc). Portable air conditioning units used for tents or outside are not allowed. Shower tents or portable potty tents are not allowed. Hot tubs and other non-camping equipment is not allowed
  • Golf Carts are not allowed in the Fort Pickens Campground with the exception of disabled persons accessing the restroom facilities. Use by any other persons is prohibited.
