What Guests Are Saying
Upper Chattahoochee River Campground is a beautiful and spacious site, particularly enjoyable in mid-September. While the absence of a caretaker can lead to varying camper behavior, the second night was peaceful, and previous visitors appreciate the scenic drive and friendly park rangers. However, the campground may not be ideal for hikers due to limited nearby trails and hunting in the area, requiring caution.

This is a very pretty campground and very pleasant in mid-September. The sites are generously sized and pretty clean. With no on-premise caretaker, it's the luck of the draw in terms of camper behavior. The first night was rough; site crashers barreled in late at night and ran a loud engine for an hour or two. The second night was comparatively peaceful, featuring only a big party with a favorite music playlist. I don't really recommend the location to hikers, though. We could find no nearby trailheads, and hikers must wear orange and make noise to avoid getting shot by happy hunters! For that reason alone, we probably won't return.
There are a few additional things you should know before your trip:
1. The unsigned dirt road into the campground is unpaved, winding, narrow, rutted, and gravelly. There's a reason the locals all drive big trucks. We would not have made it there in rainy conditions.
2. Google may not accept the address on your reservation. I may not accept the coordinates either! Just use the campground name. Your in-car GPS should keep working even after your phone loses signal, which it will.
4. Hunting is permitted within 150 yards of the campground. So if you like to hunt, you'll probably like this place! And if you plan to walk about in the woods, you'll need some bright orange gear.
3. Be sure to take a book or some games. Treking to the waterfall behind the campground will consume an hour at best.

Always been a favorite spot to pitch a tent though it's changed quite a bit from when I first started going there in the early 90's coming from Florida. Love the ride in no matter which direction you take. I also had a great conversation with a Ranger who dropped of my permit. The guy was a great representation for the USFS.

Beautiful campground. We hiked to both waterfalls; one on a well marked easy trail; the other on an undeveloped trail but leading to a beautiful waterfall.

{"text"=>"Nice getaway - you’re really way out in the forest out here. 30min of narrow gravel bumpy road, it’s true any car can manage to get down but it’s nerve wrecking 10mph and seems like forever. No cell signal when you’re out here. Be sure to come prepared camping since it’s such a long ways in and out. Campgrounds were nice, there’s a river or creek running along the campground, nice to sleep to. Portapotties available, bathrooms are locked (they’re not full size real bathrooms anyway). Be prepared to be one with nature.\n\nStargazing is nice here - if you have a view between the trees, the stars are very bright and plentiful.\n\nDidn’t see much wildlife on this trip but could hear the birds. Pretty waterfall within walking distance. Be mindful of ticks, wear long pants and sleeves and inspect yourself before getting in tent or going home. I found a lone star tick on my shirt when I got home and may have been from wandering through the grass and wilderness out here.", "languageCode"=>"en"}
