Warm River Cabin is located less than 20 mi from Ashton, Idaho, at Warm River Springs. An Idaho fish and game hatchery operated here from the 1930s to the 1950s. The cabin was formerly the hatchery manager's house. It was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1938.
The cabin is open year-round and can be accessed by car in the warmer months. Snowmobiles and cross-country skis are required to access the cabin on a groomed trail from early December through mid-May. The trek from the nearest available parking at Bear Gulch Trailhead to the cabin is 6 mi. Guests should be prepared to bring much of their own gear and supplies to make their stay comfortable.

The Warm River Cabin offers a serene location with breathtaking scenery, making it a great spot for outdoor activities like hiking and skiing. Many guests appreciated the cozy atmosphere and well-stocked amenities, as well as recent upgrades like new curtains and games. While there were some issues with privacy due to foot traffic and occasional animal intrusions, guests still enjoyed their stay and expressed a desire to return.
Beautiful location. Classic old FS Guard Station. A little musty inside, but the mattresses were surprisingly good. Plenty of firewood blocked up and ready for visitors. Not exactly private with a trailhead there and the only public toilet in miles. Didn't check to see if our cell phones worked.
The cabin was very busy with visitors, don't go expecting any sort of solitude. Also, the cabin was in dire need of a deep clean as previous occupant(s) had done a poor job of upkeep, there was even a dead mouse in one of the kitchen drawers. The mosquitoes were absolutely horrendous and we couldn't keep them out of the cabin, it seems most of the window screens needs repairs. We ended up checking out a day early since it getting miserable, this is coming from 4 mountain men who have spent a week every year for 6 years in a Firetower. The only reason for 3 stars is the location is absolutely stunning.

Wonderful experience at the cabin in late May. The cabin was in the most beautiful setting with the spring coming out from the mountain directly next to it. Mule deer spent the mornings and evenings out in the spring. The cabin was well maintained but the roads were not. Our Land Rover made it without issue, but had we not had it or another Jeep-like vehicle, we wouldn't have been able to reach the cabin due to the water crossings. In four nights, we only had 3 other vehicles make it back to the cabin. In the surrounding area, we found elk, moose, sandhill cranes, and Osprey. We will book this cabin anytime we are in the area!

Clean and spacious. Good fishing (Brook Trout), beautiful location. Had a young black bear visit but was easily run off. Very active with daily visitors.
