About Clear Creek Guard Station

Clear Creek Guard Station is located 20 miles northeast of Montpelier, Idaho. Not much is known about the history of this guard station site, but it's believed to have been an administrative site since 1910. Several different buildings have either been built or relocated to this site since then. The current A-frame cabin was built by the Young Adult Conservation Corps in 1980. The cabin is accessible by car when there is no snow. Guests should be prepared to snowmobile in winter, and they are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety. The snowmobile trip is about 5 miles from Crow Creek and 10 miles from Montpelier Reservoir. The cabin provides some basic comforts, but guests will need to bring some of their own supplies and gear to make their stay comfortable.

Nice cabin if you like the very basics. You pretty much have to bring everything you need, and the road in can be muddy at times.

Overall pretty good. The mice still a problem, and they need to seal off the corner off where the roof and the floor meet properly (perhaps with wire mesh first then foam). The person that gave me the lock combination told me that there was a shed with wood in it, and there was not. There was just barely enough for the few days and only at night time to take the bite of the cold away while we fell asleep. Still a pretty good place to stay.

This place is amazing!!! The pics and description don’t do it justice. We wondered if they are trying to keep this place a secret. We seriously loved it! Clean, cute cabin! One main cabin with a loft, 3 pull down plank single beds, a table with benches, and 3 wooden chairs. Then there are two more additional cabins right next door that each have a double bed and table and more room for cots or whatever. Two outhouses. Two picnic benches near the campfire area. We had a great time! The kids loved it!!! They all fought over the loft. Super fun!!!

I was happy to see that my concerns from last year were addressed. There were only a few flies which we eliminated. Only caught one mouse and the wood stove no longer emitted smoke through cracked welds. We found the floor had been swept clean and the wood supply had been refreshed. There was a new first aid kit and the fire extinguisher appeared to have been serviced. We do plan to rent the cabin for next years hunting season.
