What Guests Are Saying
The Stump Creek Guard Station offers a clean cabin with a full propane tank, making it an ideal location for youth group activities and hunting trips. The heater may take time to warm up, especially if the previous user left the propane tank valve closed, but it functions well overall. Many visitors appreciate the convenience of a cabin over traditional camping.

Be patient with the heater. It takes quite a while for the gas to get from the tank if the previous user left it running when they shut the propane tank valve. It otherwise worked flawlessly.

The cabin was clean and propane was full. Perfect spot for a youth group game night. Very short snow machine ride in the winter.

We've been camping up in Stump Creek for the past 10 years during hunting season. It was nice not having to put up or tear down a tent this time. Cabin was a great option to our hunt this year

Fun cabin. Make sure to bring padding. Some cabins have mattresses but Stump Creek does not. Pilot light on the furnace can be finicky but once you get everything going you have reliable heat.

The parking area was muddy but access is very good and its close to towns if you need supplies.

Flies, cows and hunters. ...in that order.
We were here in mid-September. There were multiple hunting parties all around the cabin and horses tied up to the cabin fence. At about midnight a Truck pulled up to the cabin and asked me if I knew where a certain group was camping. This was all an inconvenience. However the amount of cowshit, and the flies that brought was overwhelming. Inside the cabin there were several flystrips that were coated in buzzing flies. One of the windows was broken and the screens were torn. Also there were no mattresses on the beds so we slept on cots. Actually, with all the flies and hunters, I don't think we slept at all.

I have been staying overnight at Stump Creek for several years now and have very few complaint. One I have mentioned previously is the fact that the heater does not work. Maybe we just haven't figured out how to make it work yet, but I have run a lot of heaters and I was with 2 engineers. We got the cook stove and the lights working, but no heat. My trip in 2017 and 2019 we had rain and cold. A little heat to dry out would have been welcome. Outside of that, things have been great. I especially enjoyed 2018 when there were 3 minor earthquakes during the night. I awoke to shaking and rumbling, but the building was still standing, and nothing was crashing down on me, so I figured I'd probably live 'til morning and went back to sleep. See what you can do about the heat and lights (none in the back room) and I'll be a happy camper.
