About Stump Creek Guard Station

Stump Creek Guard Station is located along what was once the Lander Cutoff for the Oregon Trail. Visitors can trace the path that covered wagons traveled on over 150 years ago on their way to the Pacific Northwest. Wagon ruts are still carved into the soil. The guard station is accessible by car during warmer months, but guests should be prepared to ski, snowshoe or snowmobile more than a mile to reach he cabin in winter. Guest will need to bring much of their own supplies and gear to ensure a comfortable stay.

What Guests Are Saying

The Stump Creek Guard Station offers a clean cabin with a full propane tank, making it an ideal location for youth group activities and hunting trips. The heater may take time to warm up, especially if the previous user left the propane tank valve closed, but it functions well overall. Many visitors appreciate the convenience of a cabin over traditional camping.

Be patient with the heater. It takes quite a while for the gas to get from the tank if the previous user left it running when they shut the propane tank valve. It otherwise worked flawlessly.

The cabin was clean and propane was full. Perfect spot for a youth group game night. Very short snow machine ride in the winter.

We've been camping up in Stump Creek for the past 10 years during hunting season. It was nice not having to put up or tear down a tent this time. Cabin was a great option to our hunt this year

Fun cabin. Make sure to bring padding. Some cabins have mattresses but Stump Creek does not. Pilot light on the furnace can be finicky but once you get everything going you have reliable heat.
