Amazing lookout! Spotty cell coverage. The kitchen makes packing for lookout trips a lot easier. Road to get up to the lookout is in pretty rough shape. Lots of bees this time so if you are going I would suggest bringing disposable yellow jacket traps.

Lovely place, refrigerator is basically a freezer and there could be some yellow jacket mitigation, but overall it was a great experience.

Little Guard was not on our original itinerary, but we were lucky to grab a cancellation. The tower is located on a ridge with a tremendous view, some of the best we've seen. The wildflowers gave us opportunity to get some awesome photos due to the views from that vantage point. Little Guard could use a new coat of paint. The kitchen area felt more like a damp basement than a kitchen, but that didn't pose a problem as we preferred cooking on the grill that was outside. We were able to squeeze the four of us in the lookout part of Little Guard. Beautiful location all around. Recommend it.

Had 2 days of sunny weather at Little Guard - 3rd time staying at the most luxurious Rental Lookout on the list. Everything was perfect. Monster Bull elk in the dark the first night, and a "friend of the lookout" deer doe visited both nights, probably looking for treats (which we did not provide). Great stay!

This is my third time renting Little Guard. The information provided about the facility, directions, etc. is good, but the Forest service road to the facility is in much worse shape compared to my previous visits. A passenger car without clearance and all wheel drive would really have difficulty making it to the lookout so unless the road is improved, consider adding a warning that all wheel drive and high clearance vehicle is recommended.

From I-90, take Exit #43 (Kingston) and drive 24 miles north on Forest Highway 9 to Prichard junction. From there, continue on Forest Road 208 for about 5 miles to Forest Road 602 (on the right just past Shoshone Base Camp). Drive about 9 miles to the lookout at the end of the road. Vehicles with high clearance and good tires are strongly recommended.
