beautiful views over the lake, perfect crust-cruising weather while we were there, and I loved not having to wake up in the middle of the night to stoke a fire like we do in a yurt! The people before us walked in w/sneakers(!!!), and next time I'll bring some to go for a jog on the snowmobile-groomed trails. If you stay on the groomed trails, you'll be perfectly happy in snowshoes or classic skis, but if you want to explore the meadows/forests/lakeshore, my vote is for backcountry skis w/skins. They were perfect for afternoons when the crust became soft and classics wouldn't have stayed on top. Kitchen currently has no sieve for snowmelt or oven mitts -- I'll bring my own next time.

From a visitor for several years, usually every February: First and foremost, it's an incredibly beautiful location and it's great that it's available to rent. Then the good: the cabin is quite warm and comfortable, having electricity but not running water. Cell service is better now and usually available. The oven, stove, microwave, and fridge are not high tech but they generally work. Then the not quite as good: Maintenance is needed to fix the front door, the propane fireplace heater (broken for two years now, and it's a much nicer heat source than the noisier wall electric heaters), some lights, and various other things. The shovels provided are always broken, missing, and/or inadequate. Then, a few recommendations for visitors: Try to bring 1-2 gallons of water per person per day. If you wear fleece, expect it to collect a lot of dog hair from prior visitors. I snowshoe in, but if you use a snow machine, bringing in wood for the outdoor fire pit can be nice. Exploring the area can be level around the lake, or steep going up toward Bench Lakes. There are usually playing cards and several other games already there. If you insist on 52 cards to a deck and 1000 pieces to a 1000-piece puzzle, however, you may want to bring your own just to be sure! Finally, be somewhat flexible and you should have a great time!

Great little cabin. Easy 2.5 mile walk to the cabin from 75. Electric heat was reliable; some people had noted that the heaters would not work, however all it takes is a little patience waiting for the sensors in the heater to reset as the temperature cools in the cabin. Just be prepared for the potential cold as you should always be in the winter. We found it to not be an issue at all. We did bring a full sized sheet to cover the mattress, based on prior experience at yurts; not necessary, but glad we did; the mattress was very comfortable. We can't think of any negative issues; obviously previous experience with winter camping is a good idea, but not necessary. Very private and beautiful. Have fun!

This is such an awesome place to stay in the winter! It is a bummer that the propane heater wasn't working, but the electrical heaters kept us plenty warm even when the overnight low dropped to -10. If you are planning on melting snow, I would bring a bigger stock pot. We ended up with all 4 burners melting snow for most of the evenings. Remember to bring paper towels, some cleaning supplies,
It was an amazing trip and I can't wait to return next year.

Had a great time at the cabin. only one of the wall heater was working and the wood stove was out, so it did get a little cold one night. But other than that, a great experience. Dragging a sled in is a great way to get extra gear to the cabin that you don't have to carry in a backpack.
