About Steck Park

Steck Park offers access to Brownlee Reservoir along the Snake River from the Idaho side of Hell's Canyon. The park is at the southern end of the 56-mile-long reservoir, not far from the town of Weiser, Idaho. Brownlee is among Idaho's most heavily fished waters. Each year, about 10,000 visitors use the site to enjoy boating and prime catfish, crappie, and smallmouth bass fishing - considered the best in Idaho and Oregon.Visitors can camp in two areas. The lower campground is in the older, shaded part of the park and provides 21 sites (16 of these for RVs). The newer area has 23 campsites, 4 of which are group sites. Steck Park also has two boat launching facilities including a ramp near the lower campground offering access for car-top boats and small trailered boats and an extended, low-water ramp (useable down to 2055' water level) at the far end of the park.In addition to camp sites, the park has a potable water for every three sites, vault toilets, an RV dump station, and a fish cleaning station. Steck Park is a fee area - Day Use - $2.00; Tent Camping - $5.00/night; RV Camping - $8.00/night. There is a seasonal camp host on site. No reservations. First-come, first-served.

What Guests Are Saying

Steck Park offers beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife sightings, including coyotes and pelicans. While the road conditions and low water levels impacted the experience, many guests appreciated the proximity to trains and the overall camping atmosphere. Despite some challenges over Memorial Day, visitors still found value in their time spent at the park, suggesting a preference for day trips or camping away from the train bridge.

Came in late summer, so the road in was super rough washboard. Water was really low too. Beautiful scenery and saw lots of wildlife- coyote, pelican, egrits, jack rabbits, turkey, rattle and rat snake. Its neat to see the trains up close, but didn't make for a good night sleep. We'd probably come again, but for a day trip, or camp up the road farther from the train bridge.

We were there for 13 days and over Memorial Day. It was a bit crazy over Memorial Day, no camp host patrolling like he had every week day since we had been there, no fish and game they came on Tues, no police patrol; they needed someone to keep the ATV and UTV's out of the campground and off the beach. The water was super low and fishing wasn't great but any day camping and fishing beats any day at home adulting.

If you don't mind the Flies and mosquitoes, it's a great place for catching large yummy catfish. Oh yeah don't forget about the humongous spiders everywhere. But if you like catching large catfish, this is a great place to do it. A side of the trains that go by it's actually a peaceful place to go fishing. And if you like off-roading and playing in the sand there is a spot on the way out here to stop at. They've got a pretty good sized Sand Dune area. And if you like shooting there's areas for that as well. Just be mindful of ranchers cattle that are free range. Make sure not to hit one of those or you being a lot of trouble, LOL

Very shady. Walk down to the river and fish. Vault toilets are surprisingly clean with plenty of TP. Camp host is very friendly and helpful with local knowledge of the area.
