We always enjoy our time at Dam West we were concerned to hear that in the future the campground may become reservation only. We are very concerned about this as we enjoy coming when we get some free time on short notice and with reservation only for all sites this would limit our ability to camp on short notice. We strongly feel that at least some of the camp site should remain first come which allows those "passing through" to enjoy the campground and those of us who can't plan ahead 6 months to camp. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. We hope to continue to camp at Dam West at Carlyle

We have camped at Dam West several times in the past. The campgrounds are nice. The bathrooms and shower house are always clean and in good working condition. Everything about the experience was great with the exception of one incident involving a rude camper. There is a children's playground in the middle of the loop. The only way to access the playground without passing through someone's campsite is a area on the opposite side of the loop from where we were camped. My 9 year old granddaughter walked between 2 campsites to get to the playground. The woman was very rude to my granddaughter and told her not to walk through her campsite. I have never seen a posted rule concerning this and I don't know what proper etiquette is for accessing the playground. I feel the woman was bullying a 9 year only girl.
