Dam West Campground offers large, clean sites, many with beautiful lake views, and is well-maintained with friendly, helpful staff. Guests appreciate the calm lake for activities like boating and swimming, as well as the nearby town amenities. Dam West campground is great. Our site (95) was paved and shade. The campground is always well taken care of. They come around and clean up the fire pit every morning. The wi-fi is decent. We get several over the air tv stations. I will say the campground map on the recreation.gov app needs to be updated. It does not show the sites correctly.

This was our first time to stay at Dam West. This campground is now one of our absolute favorites! Bathrooms were nice and clean, there is a coin operated laundromat on-site with two washers and two dryers, Walmart is 1.2 mi away, there is a great Mexican restaurant a bike-ride away, and there is a sailing club near the campground with lots of beautiful sailboats. There is a nice bike path that winds around the campground and lake, and into Carlyle. St. Louis is an hour away (we went in for a Cardinals game). This lake is absolutely gorgeous--the largest in Illinois. Hosts were extremely nice. We will definitely be back.

We were very impressed with the campground because it has large campsites where you were not sitting on top of your neighbor. Also an excellent maintenance crew that kept the grounds and facilities extremely clean. The bike trail network was great! We will be back.

Our new favorite CG!! I see why it’s hard to snag a spot here. Sites are HUGE. Room between sites. Most are very level and shaded.. We loved the bike path! Cannot wait to return.
I was able to use my Verizon hotspot the whole time. Saved the data on my Starlink.
