I travel by motorcycle and therefore camp in a tent. I've stayed at both the RV sites on the east side of the lake and the tent-only sites at South Sandusky. The tent sites are really, really nice. A short walk (just a couple hundred feet from the parking lot) gets you to a nice site right on the water. It is possible to walk down to the lake and go for a dip if you wish. You will need to carry in your water from the hydrant by the shower building, though. The tent pad is level. It is also made of gravel, so you will need long tent stakes.
I was there on a Saturday night, and there was a certain amount of noise from pontoon-boat stereo systems. Probably not so loud on weekdays. Bugs were not a significant issue.
The tent pads are large and level, but are gravel rather than grass, so bring long stakes.
Shower building was clean and there was plenty of hot water. The TP is so thin you can read through it, so bring your own.
The town of Sesser, about three miles to the northwest, has a couple restaurants/bars, and a "DG Market" (upgraded dollar store) with a decent selection of provisions.
I had a pleasant night, would come back again.
