What Guests Are Saying
Thomson Causeway is praised for its beautiful riverside camping, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favorite among visitors. Campers appreciate the spacious concrete pads, proximity to nature, and stunning sunsets over the Mississippi River. While some concerns were raised about noise from barking dogs and a less-than-friendly host, the overall experience is highly positive, with many planning to return.

All OK. I’ve been here multiple times and find the facilities well organized and maintained. I just wish camp sites were more visually separated.
Dream on, I guess.

Beautiful, clean and quiet park on the Mississippi River. Did not use bath/shower house. Hosts were courteous and helpful. Visit the Dutch Windmill and Museum in Fulton, IL. Also, about an hour drive to Galena/Dubuque areas. There is a river museum in Dubuque that we enjoyed as well.

We always enjoy camping here. The campsites are excellent with electric and water. The scenery is amazing! We enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset from the shelter along the Mississippi River. We love the River section for camping -perfect for watching the river traffic! The campground is clean and quiet even when full of campers. If you enjoy hiking or cycling this campground is adjacent to the Great River Road Trail. Highly recommend camping at the Thompson Causeway it's an excellent campground with a friendly informative staff.

Beautiful view of the widest pool in the Upper Mississippi River. 3 miles wide, the barge channel is 2.5 miles out from shore. This makes for a quiet day as boat traffic cannot be heard. Fishing is good right off the shore. A ramp is available for launching boats, canoes, and kayaks. The Great River Bike Trail runs along the edge of the park, offering a 6-mile ride to Lock and Dam 13 or a 12-mile ride to Savanna, IL. Try to catch a barge running through the lock, a fascinating example of engineering.

Lower bathhouse had many snakes under and around it. Was very hot today in bathhouse fan not keeping air moving. At top bathhouse the outlets did not work. Overall we love going to Thompson for camping.
Thank you
