We did a 33 mile backpacking trip in the woods of Mammoth Cave. We stayed at two campsites on two different nights. I would recommend carrying more water than you expect because depending on the trail and time of year there can be miles without water to filter. We ended up camping during a severe thunderstorm watch and tornado warning, but the campground was set up well enough to prepare us for the storm incoming. It was a great trip and fun to explore out there.

Raymer Hollow camp is one of the better backcountry sites. Easy water access. On a bluff with a nice view, at least as good as you're going to get in a forest. Even has a nice stone bench to sit on near the fire ring.

We stayed at Collie Ridge and Ferguson campsites. Collie was excellent. Secluded, great water source very close by. Lots of room. Places to hang hammocks. Ferguson is set pretty far out. Water also right down the hill. Dead fall trees “in” the camp blocking the horse tie ups and limiting space for tents/hammocks. See for yourself on our YouTube episode https://youtu.be/zqiNktHNAR8?si=se1kSOcRyjmJGoXN Subscribe if it helps you plan your trip!!

Turnhole Bend is a wonderful backcountry primitive campsite. It's quiet with beautiful natural surroundings. The tent site is flat and the campsite has a firepit installed. We listened to the sounds of coyotes calling during the early evening hours, and soft rain throughout the night. It was very peaceful.

Fantastic site. Had a wonderful time even in freezing weather. The waterfall near the campsite was still flowing, so extra water was no problem to obtain. Firewood can be scarce, so be prepared to have to hunt for it. Overall, one of my favorite campsites at Mammoth Cave.

Hiked in at night, never found the campsite. Spent around an hour looking for it on 4 separate maps. Eventually had to ditch. Not sure the trail to the campsite even exists anymore. Never found an orange trail marker to indicate that we were on a side path. Honestly, don't book this site. Book somewhere else that is worth your time. You most likely will not find it.
