Maple Springs

The information about check in was very confusing. Just a simple statement of your reservation was your check in would work. It was a great campground.

Other than the grass being a little higher than we imagined (and bugs we've never seen before), our site was good. We will definitely book the same one in the future. The only other negatives were the toilet had an odor and gnats swarming (we will fix this in the future with additional "toilets" of our own) and the people at the site next to ours. We brought two dogs which were well behaved and leashed/confined according to the rules of the campground. One outside dog and one inside dog. Every time we would leave and while we slept, they would come to our site and let the outside dog off his leash. He does not bark and is a gentle giant puppy. We know it was them because there was a point where we were other only 2 sites occupied and it happened. They would run around on our site and in the woods behind us when they thought we were asleep, very rudely. They never said anything to us, but they definitely impacted our trip. We did talk amongst ourselves about how the dog was "escaping" but he must have thumbs due to the nature of the escape on our second to last day and the next morning when we woke, the dog was still tied up. That did not stop them from playing loudly in the woods behind us and running along our site when they thought we were asleep. I will admit, I never saw smaller children but they may have had a teen or two. At any rate the behavior was atrociously disrespectful and is not something one should have to deal with on any getaway. It's not hard to stay in one's own rented space. Other than those few things and lack of anyone checking on the grounds or stopping by to check reservations/welcome people, it was great.

Our site was beautiful, peaceful, spaced out well from neighbors. Our neighbors had some dogs which were well behaved but far enough away to not be disruptive even when they did bark.
The site is equipped with a couple concrete picnic tables, a couple fire rings, water and electric, and plenty of shade. There was enough space we probably could have pitched 10 tents, but we only had 2, an RV and a couple hammocks.
The ground is very hard- we will be upgrading to heavy duty stakes before next trip.
The wildlife- we saw quite a few insects and spiders, and at night heard deer? bears? people? no idea- rummaging through the woods behind us. I told the kids it was just deer. I hope I was right, but nothing showed itself.
The ferry was only open from 6am to 6pm most days, I think opens later on Sunday, and is very small. Only holds 2 cars- no trailers or RVs, so if you use GPS to get to the site off times or with trailers or RVs, set it to avoid ferries. It does make it about a 30-45 minute trip to the Mammoth Cave visitor center if you can't use the ferry, and only 5-10 minutes if you can.
We all loved the site and are already planning our next trip there.

Great area, open, beautiful and good proximity to everything. Sewer hook ups would be nice.
