What Guests Are Saying

This is a small, quiet campground close to Maple Springs Trailhead. I camped in my horse trailer and brought one horse. All of the other campers were non-equestrian, but the kids all had good sense, were well-behaved and kept a safe distance from my horse. Dogs were kept on their leashes and for the most part they were well-behaved too. All of the campers were super nice people.
Water and Electric hook-ups are very close to the trailer, so you won't have to use long water hoses or long extension cords. Trailer sits on a paved pad that's reasonably level left to right, but I disconnected the trailer from my truck to level it front-to-back. The paved sites are facing the wrong direction but if you go in through the exit (enter the wrong way) you'll be able to back in just fine.
There are no stalls or corrals for horses and combined with the distance from the trailer I wasn't totally comfortable with the horse's safety overnight by himself tied to a picket line. I got up twice during the night to check on him since he was alone, the only horse in the whole campground. Fortunately he seemed okay with that and was content and quiet during the night.
High-line posts provided for horses are very stout and are high enough for horses to walk under the picket line. The horse areas are pretty far from the campsite, you won't be able to keep your horse close to your trailer. You'll need a 50' long picket line because the posts are far apart. If you're short like me you will need a stepladder to reach the holes in the top of to the posts to thread your picket line through and pull it tight. If you have more than one horse, they all have to be tethered to the same picket line.
There are no showers or flush toilets. The pit toilets were decent.
There is no place to dump grey or black water tanks at this campground.

We loved the solitude of Maple Springs and the vault toilets weren't even that bad. The coyotes at night were a special treat!

Though on recreation.gov reservation website stated no water or electric hook up for group site 4 was pleasantly surprised to have water & electric hook up! Setting is beautiful!!

- Directions from the North: Take Interstate 65 to Exit 53 (Cave City Exit). Turn right onto KY-70. Follow 70/255 as it becomes the Mammoth Cave Parkway in the park. Follow the Mammoth Cave Parkway towards the Visitor Center. Turn left on the Green River Ferry Road. Cross the ferry and follow the signs to Maple Springs. Turn left onto Maple Springs Loop. Maple Spring Campground will be on the left. For trailers or large vehicles, use alternate directions. Vehicles boarding the ferry must not exceed 8 tons and have a length no more than 16 feet.

Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

- Sites 1-4 have electric and water, and are recommended for equestrian use with a tie-up area. No sewer or dump station available.
- Sites 1-4 are recommended for equestrians with electric and water; vault toilets are available. No sewer or dump station.
Vehicles & parking
- Green River Ferry is closed; alternate route takes 45 minutes. Ferry operates limited hours. RVs cannot use the ferry.
- Ferry is subject to last minute closures; RVs cannot board. Call for operational status. Ferry hours are 6am-6pm.
