Axtel is our favorite campground!
Beautiful waterfront sites and most all sites are lake view as well. Restrooms and showers are clean and great water pressure.

We stayed at site C45, and it was wonderful! The site had a beautiful water view and plenty of room. We absolutely loved the campground and enjoyed riding our e-bikes around the area. The camp host was the friendliest camp host we have ever encountered. Their hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again!

Axtel is a fantastic campground. We put our reservation in for a day less than we planned and the campground hosts were able to find us another spot. Wonderful place and wonderful people.

I was very disappointed in this campground. The bathroom showers didn’t work. They say they have septic system but they are all capped. I give it a 1 star. No help either in campground.

Park Ranger and Sheriff’s deputies came through the area on a regular basis. Area was quiet and well kept. Bathrooms were cleaned daily.

Begin at ramp onto I-64 West toward New Albany/St. Louis, traveling 22.3 miles. Take the IN-135, Exit Number 105, toward Palmyra/Corydon, onto IN-135 South toward Corydon, traveling 16.7 miles. Continue on Bypass Road KY-79 for 2.1 miles. Turn right onto KY-79, traveling 10.1 miles. Continue on 1st Avenue, KY-79S for 495 feet. Turn a slight right onto US-60, traveling 11.8 miles. Turn left onto KY-259/KY-79, traveling 9.7 miles. Turn right to stay on KY-79, traveling .7 miles. End at 663 South Highway 79, McDaniels, KY. Distance is approximately 74 miles with an approximate travel time of 1 hour, 20 minutes.
The campground is accessible via I-64, approximately 22.3 miles away, and is connected to KY-79 and US-60.

Policies & Rules
General
- Off-road vehicles are not permitted
- Park Attendant can be reached while on duty at (270) 257-2584. If no answer, contact the Rough River Lake U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office at (270) 257-2061.
- $5 per day boat ramp fee
- Reservations will not be marked in advance at the campsite. Do not set up at any campsite without reserving the site first.
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
- Generators and other noise-producing devices must be turned off during this time.
