Waitsboro Campground offers beautiful views of Lake Cumberland, with many sites providing privacy and spaciousness. The campground is well-maintained, with clean restrooms and friendly staff, although some visitors noted issues with the steep inclines and inconvenient dump station access. Overall, guests enjoyed their stays and appreciated the scenic location, despite some minor frustrations.

I wouldn't recommend bringing anything longer than 25-30 ft to this campground. Site 15 has a pretty serious grade to it. While backing in, we almost bottomed out our rear stabilizer on a 25' BH travel trailer. Had to remove weight distribution trunions to drop the front end an inch or two to clear. You can tell quite a few people have gouged the drive. The dump station is situated at the top of a pretty large hill that you have to go all the way to the boat ramp and then turn around and go all the way back to access. Not much clearance on drivers side to clear the ditch that runs along side the drive.

I'm not sure we'll go back but someone with a smaller camper would have a much better experience. In addition to poor directional signage, they have no firewood at the campground. I was told to go to Kroger.

The campground is beautiful, nice sized sites and terrific for small campers. We had a 43' fifth wheel and it was almost impossible to get into our camping spot or maneuver around the campground! Our site stated it was for an RV up to 73', which is very misleading. ATT cell service was minimal.

There are 15 stairs leading up to this campsite. Once you get up there, it’s worth it. You overlook some lower campsites which will most likely be trailers but you have a fantastic view of the lake. This campsite has good shade. It has a nice railing around it that you can use to put things on (for example: on the back rail, I did my dishes and used as a ledge for totes). There’s water and electricity. You have your own little world up there…you just have to climb to get to it. Its also good to know that it’s a good little (not terribly long) hike to the restroom which also has a bunch of stairs to climb. Sadly, I didn’t wake up thin on the last day. :/

Great views from all campsites of the Cumberland River. Restroom and shower facilities were very clean and well maintained. Ranger did an excellent job of making sure the area was secure. Only negative is that the camp site are too close together for my taste.

There is a road sign on the way down the steep curvy road approaching this campground that reads "road ends in water" which made us laugh! Anyway, this Dept of Civil Engineers small campground is on beautiful Lake Cumberland. Almost every site has a view of the lake but I agree with others who have commented that it is not for large campers. The best sites are 1-4 as they are pretty easy to back into and have a 1st rate view of the lake. Whatever you do, do not book #17, it is practically impossible to back into. The gravel site is built into the hillside so when we were backing in, our camper was so tilted that it looked like it was going to tip over, scariest camper situation we have been in so far. Also, the upwards pitch to get up in here made the hitch and trailer foot stand bury into the gravel. At one point the back corner of the trailer was pushing into the gravel. The attendant told us that a camper had gone in the ditch last week (ditch is about a foot deep) and it cost him $3,500 to get it out. That doesn't include the damage done. Also, at this time of year (fall) the black walnuts are falling and they are fist sized hard balls that feel like they could damage your camper or tow vehicle. Another draw back for this particular site (17).
We stayed here for 3 nights and did enjoy the peace and quiet and beauty while we were here.
We drove to a campground 30 minutes away to dump because "the dump station here wasn't planned out with campers in mind. It's on top of a steep hill, with a very sharp approach that will scrap your tongue or trailer to turn left from our side of the campground. If you try from the other side your dump valves are on the wrong side and elevated, so you won't get a complete dump." Also, this is where the bathrooms are which is a very steep walk up the hill to get there. We noticed a lot of campers driving to the bathroom because of this. The bathrooms are not heated so at this time of year very chilly to shower.
