Ojibwa Campground

The process of checking in seems easy enough, but if you don't leave something at your site, it will be taken because campers have no idea who is parked where. We've had a never-ending stream of "you can't park there," "I paid for this spot," "you have 30min to move because we need this spot for the powwow next weekend," etc. Someone even called the police because we plugged a fan into the electricity. A car full of women showed up one day last week and accused us of not paying, which we had. Helpful signage is basically nonexistent. The showers and toilets didn't work the first two weeks we were here, and they didn't provide portapotties in the powwow grounds. The showers are definitely camper showers (gotta push a button every 30-60 sec to keep the water flowing, and there's no temp control). People smoke pot and let their dogs off-leash on the day beach (we had an off-leash dog charge at me and my leashed dog).

When it hasn't been a total nightmare, it's been ok. 🤷‍♀️ It is beautiful!

I attended the annual KBIC Maawanji’iding powwow held on Ojibwa campground but didn't camp here. The event was absolutely spectacular. The campground seems to have lots of shaded spaces for camping and good facilities.

This campground is the best around. You have plenty of room. They have bathrooms, showers & Water spickets all over. Electricity hookups. A waste station with water. Its clean, quiet & safe. Pricing is perfect. Lots of space & nature all around you. Nice big sites with picnic tables & firepits with little griddles on them. Dollar general is right by the campground, within walking distance. There is camp sites by the marina, the beach & in the woods. There is a few parks & play areas, horse shoe pits & more, beach for swimming, several great areas for fishing, boat ramps & docks. Little trails all over, there's even a lighthouse. This place is HUGE & there is plenty to do. Your kids won't be bored, they all play together all day & even the older kids have made new friends right away. Everyone seems to be nice & happy & respectful. Very laid back & enjoyable campgrounds.

Site on the water was pretty but ruined by all the long term campers sprawled out and encroaching onto your tiny spot. Fire pit was full of mini glass fireball bottles and beer cans. Multiple piles of dog feces on our site. Long term campers near us let all their dogs roam freely, and poop freely, and had no eyes on them. Our dog was kept on a 6 ft leash at all times and cleaned up after. No regard from long term campers for quiet hours. Appears to be no enforcement of the rules. Toilet and shower buildings are in the pow wow area about a half a mile away. Didn't attempt to use them. Went to Baraga State Park and paid the $5 to shower there. Porta pots were numerous in the actual camp ground and were clean, the only positive we took away from this experience. If you are staying for just a few nights, this isn't the spot for you. For reference, we were tenting and have stayed at many campgrounds around Michigan. We are also young and we let a lot slide while camping. This is the first time we've felt obligated to leave a review.

Be cautious before planning a stay here. The campground appears to be non-operational or unreliable. One phone number is disconnected, and the other is never answered. Online reservations also failed, with credit card payments not being processed by the vendor. It may not exist as an active campground, so it's best to avoid wasting time trying to book.
