D.h. Day Campground

Campsite was clean and well maintained. Staff at checking were very helpful and friendly. A very pretty campground in a great location. The midgies made the beach unbearable but it’s that time of year.

We absolutely love this campground The ranger who has been there for the last couple of years at least is such a warm, friendly guy. Access to the lake and bike path are plusses. Good vibes in terms of there being mostly considerate fellow campers. Wish there were showers, but the benefits outweigh that.

Overall, the campsite, office admin, and property were excellent. Interaction with campground host was unsatisfactory with disregard to our property and guy lines for the tent and flies. He did not identify himself and approached as a potentially inebriated camper as well as did not respond to our warnings about the guy lines. He muttered concerns about our tiki torches without explanation. We understood the risk and extinguished them in a timely manner despite the lack of explanation on the specific regulation of the campground which was not found on the hand out or through subsequent search online.

the campground host brought us bear cannisters in his golf cart. Very helpful. We came on Indian Trails with our bicycles and then took Link/BATA bus to get to the campground. All very good--but no car to store food, so cannisters were helpful.

Staff was very courteous and welcoming. Loved our campsite location with easy access to trail. Quiet at night and early morning made for great sleeping. Wood available on site made it easy to have fire going whenever needed. Restrooms clean

Beautiful campground with stunning Lake Michigan frontage. Sites are well sized, and toilet houses are the best I have experienced in Michigan. I will return!

Quiet, clean, and no light pollution! I have camped at this campground multiple times because it is just that good! My favorite feature has to be it's proximity to the lake! You can hear the waves from your campsite! I loved walking to the shore to see to watch the sunset and stargaze!

This was my fourth year in a row, camping at D H Day Campground early in the season, (end of May to early June). I can’t say enough about how amazing this park is and how much this wonderful campground fits my camping style. (Micro camper in my mini van with a Jackery Battery for power generation, and a pop up shower tent for dressing)

Of course, each year has been different based on the weather. This year it was cold and rainy so the good news is: no ticks, mosquitoes, biting beach flys and minimal gnats because of the wind. The rain was mostly at night, so the beach climb was easier to do because the sand was wet and compact. If you need a break from the weather, I highly recommend the shopping and exhibits at the visitor center. You could easily spend a couple of hours there. The displays are amazing, very informative, and interesting for all ages.The artwork in the auditorium walls, done by visiting artists, over the years is amazing.

My favorite hike, Old Indian Trail, has reopened. But I should not tell you that because one of the things I like about this hike is, that it’s often a deserted beach and only a few people on the trail.

I’ve never stayed in this campground during the summer when it’s perhaps more crowded but my experience has always been that the Pit toilets are always clean and well supplied in the campground, and the campsites are always clean. This year another highlight was meeting the camp host Larry. He’s super helpful and friendly. I’m pretty sure because of budget cuts, it will be harder to keep the campground in such good shape, but it sounds like a camp host like Larry is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty, even though he’s a volunteer. And hopefully visitors will do their part by not leaving trash on the site.
