Claybanks Township Park

Beautiful place to camp, with an even more amazing view at the beach. Only downside is the lack of real restrooms, and showers. Also the view at the look out dock is lacking, if the trees and bushes were trimmed down it would make it so much better. Other than that, if you are used to roughing it, it's a great place to come, and in a very good area.

Dropped off an RV here and was impressed with the campground. The campsites are large and well spaced, and it's only about a 90-step walk to the beach. There's a huge playground for kids and a convenient RV dump station (only 1 dump spot though). The campground looked clean, well maintained, and like a great place to camp.

There are NO showers here or proper toilets. The park map shows bathrooms, these are pit toilets.
We were told the township had talked of installing a shower block but a new playground appeared instead.
There is only electric at the site, NO water or sewer.
There is one dump and was very busy on Sunday morning.
As with most Michigan parks the sites are large with everyone parking all sorts of ways.
There is a big list of park rules but no one enforces them and a lot are ignored.
You cannot see the lake from here, the park is surrounded by thick trees.
The lake beach is beautiful with soft golden sand. Access would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues.
There is no shade at the beach. The water quality is not tested.

This place is amazing. I visited for a day trip but there is also camping for long term visits. The park has a high deck in the middle of trees for a great Lake Michigan view. The beach is just a bit of walk from the park. The beach looked long enough but I have to admit that I did not go far enough to see where public beach ended on one side. On one side, the right path to the beach, is a bit close to private property though. The beach was clean and neat. At the park, there is a gazebo, swings and beach volleyball court. The park webpage says there is also horseshoe.
