Lake Michigan at St. Ignace offers a beautiful campground with clean facilities and large sites, providing excellent access to the beach and stunning sunset views. While road noise from the nearby highway can be disruptive, especially during the day, it tends to quiet down at night. Campers should be prepared for mosquitoes, but overall, many guests appreciate the well-maintained grounds and friendly hosts, making it a favored spot for a relaxing stay by the water.

I camped in site 9, which is a beachside site. I tent camp so I was able to set up away from the campground road and have a little extra privacy. I had an amazing time, and I really loved it out here. I truly did not want to leave. The site had really good coverage and a trail to the beach, which is a little steep due to erosion.
It is primitive, so no electricity, which was ideal for me. Pit toilets, too. And there is road noise, since it’s right next to the highway, but it really didn’t bother me that much. I could still hear the waves, so if you’re in a beachside site you’ll deal less with road noise. The hosts were very nice as well and it was beautiful weather, aside from a little thunderstorm that passed through. The site was also raked and looked absolutely perfect when I arrived!
From here you’re not far from St Ignace(from where you can take a ferry to mackinac island) or Sault Ste Marie. Mackinac Island is a must see when you’re in the area. You can also take the Mighty Mac bridge and head to Mackinaw City, which I did not do. Maybe next time.

Cleanest restrooms of any campground I’ve been in. Campground hosts were very nice and helpful. Some highway noise, but nothing that kept anyone up. I do wish I would have brought my screw-in stakes, cuz the best spot for my 10x14 tent was on the hard gravel packed pad.

This is an awesome campsite! It is kept very clean! If you pick a good spot you could get direct beach access and get the feeling of your own private beach. The only downside is it’s close to the road but not the biggest deal ever.

Sadly this campground is directly on the highway. The beach is beautiful but the road noise was too much. Campsites on the beach side seemed better than those on the road side.

The hosts are amazing!!!! They do a great job keeping the campground clean and campers happy. Plus it has the cleanest bathrooms I have ever used camping and they were just vault toilets!!
The sites are spaced out nicely. There was much more audible road noise at site 10 (on top of the hill) than at 9 (in valley). 10 dried quickly from rain with no standing water (9 wasnt as friendly during rainy nights).

The sound of waves...smoked salmon at Gustafson’s is excellent!

Beautiful location with large private sites. The grounds were very well kept, bathrooms were clean. Hosts Amber and Mike were great and helpful. The fire pits are quite deep which has it's plus and minuses. Although they sell wood at the campground it was not stocked for the time that I was there. The road noise from route 2 is quite significant. Not much can be done about that but it changed the ambience of the place for sure and was especially annoying during the night.

Know that this place is VERY close to the highway. If you can't sleep with semi's running 50 yards away all night at 65 mph, this isn't your place! Additionally, the sites are quite close together. With that said, it's nice to be so close to the lake and a short drive from town.
