I love paddling and camping in this area. The backcountry campsites are nice and big, the portage trails that I've used have been well-maintained, and the birdwatching has been fantastic--osprey, loons, eagles, mergansers.
Clark Lake is nice for swimming. Most of the other lakes are mucky, but they provide great wildlife habitat and are more interesting for paddling. The paddling is easy. It's a beautiful area for those looking for a peaceful nature experience.

Beautiful scenery. Serene, quiet, and loaded with everything that makes camping in the Northwoods so great. Clear, blue water. Great fishing.

It's a great place to adventure. Some of the campsites are kinda rough. Quite a hike off the lake, uphill, and very uneven for setting a tent. But the overall experience is amazing. And the Michigan Forestry Department does a great job preserving the area.

We had a great time at Chipmunk Campsite. Crooked Lake is beautiful, and so was the Hemlock grove surrounding Chipmunk

The local outfitter was very helpful with canoe rental and directions to a shower house down the road. The wilderness was beautiful. The old growth forest had a magical feeling. The fishing was great and the portage was well maintained.

This was our first time camping here and we loved it. The campsite was very clean and very big. We did the 5 lake loop off of Crooked Lake. We also portaged to Clark Lake and enjoyed the beach area a couple of days. Rangers were very friendly and helpful. We will be going back next year.
