The camp host was very very rude. The camp site was littered with trash. All the dumpster's was overflowing with trash. The bathrooms and showers was filthy. And when i brought it to the camp host attention they had a really bad attitude and told me that they are much to busy to worry about such things. With all this said we stay at big m at least 4-5 over the summer but as long as the present host are there we wont be.

We got a site right on the water. It was a perfect escape from the hectic world. We were able to kayak across the lake and fish along the bluffs. The campground is well maintained and Peggy at the attendant station was personable and helpful. This just might be our favorite place to camp.

Corps of Engineers have not done any campsite or restroom improvements for many years. Only about 10 sites were worked on 4 or 5 years ago and the rest are in very shabby condition. This park needs a major rebuild like they have done on the other campsites closer to the dam. The only reason to use Big M is because of the marina and floating restaurant. Both are excellent and the managers and dock help are all very friendly and helpful. Would say that the camp hosts did a good job caring for the park considering what they had to work with and were helpful when needed. Don't go for the campground go for the marina.

Very clean campground. Very out of the way. The camp hosts were very personable and seemed to keep the bathrooms very clean. There is a single shower in each bathroom, which are very spacious. Our problems were that the lake was too high so there was no swimming, and our dump pipe was clogged. It wasn't that big of an issue, just something else i had to deal with. I discovered it on the camp hosts' day off, so I had a pipe full of poop for 2 days. Fortunately I had caps for each end and was finally able to clean it out at a nearby site. They were able to get someone out early the next day, but we were leaving, so I don't know what came of the situation.
Also, our site had no shade during the hotter part of the day so it was hard on the air conditioner and the table and fire pit were behind the trailer, which kind of killed the whole outdoor living room vibe. Many of the sites are shaded, though, with covered tables on the side and there is plenty of room between sites. I would still recommend this as a sort of out of the way getaway. I really didn't want to leave.

Swimming beach was closed. We didnt know that until we got all the way there. I think they should have sent a email out to the campers to let us know before driving down there.

I have been coming to Big M for years- was always my favorite. The hosts this year are the worst. We checked in Friday afternoon - actually 3 of us checked in with separate vehicles and we were hassled about which sites (we had 2 side by side) and were told by the host which vehicle HAD to be where. I understand the Rv's being on the correct site but not the additional cars. I was also questioned about my golden pass and needed to show it to him to verify the number ( I have never had this questioned)
Then Saturday about 12-1 the host came over to everyone at the lake and told them this was a no swimming area. Interestingly, the park patrol has driven by earlier at least twice and nothing said- we had been down there since 8am. Why were we not told when we checked in? and why did he wait til that late to come around and tell people? Why are there no signs at the lake stating this?
We have reservations for Labor Day but if we can find another place, we will not be back until these hosts are gone. They were there last year and we had issues with ice chests being stolen, but we have never had a problem in the previous 5 years we have been camping there.
