What Guests Are Saying
Deer Creek Cabin offers a wonderful and authentic experience in a beautiful setting, with a well-stocked interior and cleanliness upon arrival. Guests enjoyed the hiking access from West Bridger and the overall ambiance of the cabin. Some minor outdoor upkeep is noted, but it does not detract from a great weekend stay.

Wonderful, authentic little cabin in a great setting!!
Be prepared to clean on arrival as more and more people only do the minimum before departing.
Don’t forget a decent bedroll and propane!

Spent 2 nights here. Upon arrival the cabin was very clean and free of dead mice. VERY well stocked with propane, cleaning supplies, and cooking utensils. The outside area needed a little upkeep but nothing that hindered me from having a great weekend.

Great spot, nice cabin. FS took out mattress’s and we never got a notice. Rough night and stiff next day.

Another great trip to our favorite cabin! FYI, there IS verizon cell reception about 1/2 mile from the cabin. Go to the bottom of the Tie Cutter trail, which is also where the Placer Gulch trail reaches the valley bottom about 4-500 yards from the cabin, then up Tie Cutter about 2-3 switchbacks. Could be handy in an emergency.

The cabin is absolutely wonderful! There is an outhouse, 1 full size bed and 2 bunk beds (mattresses are stored inside the frame of the full size bed. There have been some extra supplies left at the cabin through the years, so there were a few items we forgot that ended up being there. There are brooms and cleaning spray for cleaning up after you leave. The cabin is in a little meadow next to a wonderful creek. We came in on the Placer Gulch ATV trail. Its only 5-6 miles of ATV trail, but it took us about 45min - 1hr. Its a good trail, but its all cut out on very steep and rocky sidehills. The trail is pretty level in most places, but the drop off is steep and you don't want to make a mistake (and if you're scared of heights like I am, the trail might make you a bit nervous. We actually came in when it was dark and I did better with that because I couldn't see just how high up and how steep it was, haha! Low and slow, you'll do fine). There are other ATV trails that start just before you get to the cabin; they are similar to the trail you'll come in on; mostly steep sided and cut into a sidehill; but the scenery is worth it. We also saw horse/hike trails in the area. We made a big loop and covered most of the trails in the immediate area in a day. This was an absolutely wonderful way to spend the weekend. The creek is cold and great for cooling off. The cabin is very rustic, but perfect in every way. Very charming place to get away from it all; no cell service unless you drive back out to the top of the mountain.

Deer Creek Cabin was in a beautiful location with lots of floor space, amenities, and a stream nearby for filtering water from. At a relatively low location making for a good destination during shoulder seasons. The hike in is pretty and the ATV doubletrack is easy to follow. The given coordinates do not appear to be correct.

Very quite, trail was good. Fishing was not good. All the fish were to small to keep.

This was our 4th year at this cabin for 4th of July. Half of our party came in from the South and the other half came in from the North on Placier Gulch Trail. The cabin itself was well stocked from other patrons and fairly clean. The grass around the area had overgrown a little due to the new motor vehicle restrictions at the gate not allowing the grass to be kept down, but there were walking paths created to the outhouse within a couple of hours. We gathered firewood from the downed trees on the trail leading into the cabin and made use of our new chainsaw. We saw a few deer, a bald eagle on the 4th (great timing), and our kids had a bit of luck pulling trout out of the stream. After multiple fires, moon rises, and over 50 miles of ATV riding we still were not ready to leave. Can't wait to come back next year!

that renters carry topographic maps, GPS and compasses for navigation since the route may be difficult to find.
One route to follow is the Placer Gulch Trailhead access by foot, horse, or OHV (50 inches or less):
From Exit 370 on Interstate 90 just east of Big Timber, take Frontage Road (south side of the interstate) 8 miles east. Turn right (south) onto Lower Deer Creek Road
(Forest Service Road #482) and proceed 16.2 miles to the Placer Gulch Trailhead sign located on the left side of the road. Park at the trailhead and travel Placer Gulch Trail 256 by foot, horse or off-road vehicles a distance of 5.2 miles, to the Deer Creek Cabin.
Jim's Gulch Trailhead access by foot or horse: From Big Timber, travel 14 miles east on Interstate Highway 90 to Exit 384, Bridger Creek. At the stop sign, turn right
and travel south for 8.2 miles to the junction of Main Bridger with West Bridger Creek Road. Turn right and continue on West Bridger Road for 4 miles, to the parking
area. Park near the sign for Jim's Gulch Trail 129, Lower Deer Creek. From this point, the cabin is 4 miles by foot or horse. Follow trail 129 up Jim's Gulch for about a mile, where the trail turns sharply to the right (north) and climbs up to the ridge. Follow the trail to the divide where it descends steeply to Lower
Deer Creek. At this point, the trail junctions with Lower Deer Creek Trail 5. Turn left (south) on Trail 5 and follow the trail upstream for approximately 1.5 miles
to the cabin.
