Northstar Campground

Lovely campground in a quiet area. Stayed on River site 56 & it was a large site with plenty of space. River access was through some brush on a small path. Sites 42-46 looked like open river access, but sizes varied slightly. Initially our electric was not working on our site, but the maintenance came immediately and fixed it promptly with apologies. Bathrooms were clean w/coin operated showers ($1.50 was more than enough time). The area is great for hiking, biking and exploring Mount/Lake sunapee. I would absolutely stay at Northstar campground again.

We’ve been here a couple of times and each visit has been a great experience. The kids always make friends and are able to go about the campground and we know they are safe. The safe is super helpful and friendly. We love the swimming spots, the pond is also really nice but my kids prefer the run off areas from the river. The campsites are spacious, our trailer rv is only about 28ft.

This small family owned campground is a great place to relax, even on a holiday weekend. Peaceful! The river access with sites on the shore are a great way to cool off on a hot summer day whether you want to navigate with a tube or sit comfortably in your lawn chair. Relax. Would be nice if there was more access from the field sites and would look forward to see more trails for hiking and biking in the future. Thank you for a great USA 250 year celebration.

I stayed 4 nights in a tent at Northstar over 4th of July weekend and it was great. The site was the perfect size for my sedan, the tent and my hammock. They had a metal fire pit on the site and a wooden picnic table there too. The site was flat and clean. There was basically full shade which was a blessing during the 90 degree weather.

The camp store kept me in supply of firewood and ice. Ice was $3 for one bag or $5 for two. The firewood was 4 bundles for $30 and a bundle of kindling for $9. They put on their own fireworks show and it lasted 18 minutes and featured a great variety of dazzling fireworks. I joined a Cornhole tournament and had fun. My neighbors were friendly which was nice since I was camping alone. I brought my metal hang drum and felt comfortable playing it occasionally.

The grounds were clean. There was a porta potty maybe 100 feet from my site which was convenient. I was worried it might smell but I never noticed any odor from my site. They have a full restroom which has showers that you pay for with quarters.

My only disappointment was the swimming pond. It was very small and rustic. I imagined something much larger and with clear water. I was most turned off by the large swarm of tadpoles on the shoreline. This wasn't much of a problem though because the campground is very close to Lake Sunapee State Beach which I visited every day. It was $5 for parking and even on the busy holiday weekend I didn't have trouble getting a spot. Sunapee was a nice sandy beach with great water for swimming. I hate to criticize the Northstar swimming pond but I thought it was worth mentioning since you might want to adjust your expectations. For reference I live near Walden Pond and that has spoiled me for the whole pond experience.

I would definitely return to Northstar. It was a great sweet spot of feeling secluded but within reach of small towns. I drove to nearby Newport, New London, and other towns.

I did not have any problems with insects. I didn't even use bug spray.

We had a site in the brook with water and electric, it was spacious and beautiful. Smaller campground but well taken care of, bathrooms are older but clean, showers are pay with quarters but the water pressure and cleanliness are well worth it. The owners are super nice and very accommodating. they have a large yard for games and a pavilion, group sites are in grass with water and electric and look like a great spot right near the swim pond. Will definitely be back!!
