What Guests Are Saying
Sun Retreats Westward Shores offers a beautiful and well-maintained campground, with friendly and helpful management that enhances the guest experience. However, recent changes under new ownership have led to dissatisfaction among returning campers, particularly regarding unwelcoming staff, decreased services such as trash pickup, and cleanliness issues in cabins and public areas. Despite the campground's charm, many guests express disappointment with the overall value and are considering alternative camping locations.

My fiancé, myself and our family/friends have been camping here for several years. We have always loved the staff, the other campers and the beauty of the campground. In 2025, we had our first year as a seasonal site and UNFORTUNATELY was the same year SUN REATREATS purchased Westward Shores. For the most part, we were unhappy. The office staff were always so rude, no smiles or anything. The store was never open - they must have fired all of the younger adults that would work the summer when they were out of school.. which is a huge disappointment because they were always the best staff! Our seasonal sites were fine, nothing special (near wetlands & wooded area). The fire pits provided were GROSS - falling apart and could barely hold a few pieces of wood. We purchased our own to bring on-site. Picture attached is the better of the 2 fire pits provided. With the increasing price of the seasonal ($6940) for 5/15/26 - 10/18/26 we decided to cancel our 2026 seasonal. We understood the contract we signed did say a $750 non-refundable deposit. We called and asked if we could apply the $750 towards a weekend site or give to our families seasonal site that they are keeping for the 2026 season. They said no to both. In my opinion, there should have been SOME leniency towards using the deposit, but they chose to just say NO. We were going to get back on the seasonal waiting list for future or at the very least camp here on weekends.. but we will not camp here ever again. We will not give this company another penny of our money and we will find a better campground - maybe Danforth Bay - to camp in the future. I will also never recommend this campground to any friends or fellow campers. Use your hard earned money at a friendlier, more clean, campground! This campground has become disgusting since Sun Retreats took over.

This campground was clean, beautiful, and incredibly well maintained. The manager truly makes this place special—friendly, helpful, and always going above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. You can tell they genuinely care about the campground and the people staying there. Thanks to their dedication, our stay was smooth, relaxing, and memorable. We can’t wait to come back!!!

SUPER disappointed with how we are being treated as returning guests here. We are checking in today and have just been told they no longer do trash pickup.
We’ve stayed at the NH location 5 years in a row and usually travel with 11 other families for the same weekend every year. This year not only do we need to bring our trash to the dump but you also don’t provide sheets and towels. 🤯
When we booked a year ago all of these services were provided and were included in the price we are paying. Now less services same price and staff who have basically told us to just deal. Awful service.

We have been to Westwood Shores many times and this stay we had a blast with friends and family but the staff and cleanliness was awful. Cory at the desk was not friendly at all. Not someone you want to be greeting guest!!! Jackie was GREAT.
The cabin was very dirty. I swept up a pile of dog hair, the shower curtain was moldy and red at the bottom, the back room smelled like urine, windows had hand prints and dog saliva on the low windows and doors.
The snack shack was not open and has not been open all season, no cable but have TVs in the cabin. When asked about it they were rude "we don't have cable" They did not sell char coal at the store but the grilles are all char coal. NOT WORTH THE MONEY AT ALL! Very expensive for what you get.

Unwelcoming front desk staff with no smiles. We were really looking forward to our annual stay at WWS, but our excitement was short-lived. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff came across as unfriendly, which made us feel unwelcome. We felt as if we were inconveniencing them. This wasn't the kind of hospitality we expected from a family-friendly resort. A welcoming smile goes a long way.
The Managers are more suited to be a correctional officer than resort front desk managers.
Our Family and friends have been coming to WWS for years and years. The customer service that we received this past weekend was so disappointing we all left planning never to coming back.
The cabins were dirty, smelt like urine. The shower curtain had mildew and a red bottom. the floors had dog fur everywhere, windows had dog slobber all over them. Crumbs in the kitchen draws. The public bathrooms were not clean, The air events were filled with dirt n grime, and the floors looked like they haven't been clean for a while. quite frankly the place was disgusting.
No more snack shack. They don't sell charcoal at the store but they only provide you with a charcoal grill. They also do not provide with trash pick up like they have in the past.
For the money you pay, it's not worth it. There are better places out there.
Response from the owner 16 hours ago
Hi Tami, We are disappointed to hear this, and we will certainly follow up on the housekeeping concerns. Our rules and regulations are in place for the safety and peaceful enjoyment of our guests, and they apply to everyone. We understand that nobody enjoys issuing or receiving rule reminders or violation notices, but these communications are a necessary part of maintaining a safe camping environment for everyone to enjoy. These tough conversations may not seem "welcoming" or "friendly," but they are important. We appreciate your feedback, and we wish you all the best wherever you choose to vacation next.
The funny part about this response from the owner is, THEY FAILED at communication. They tried to hide from these "tough conversations"
