Camp Gateway at Sandy Hook offers a beautiful and well-maintained campground with various activities, including hiking, biking, and fishing. Visitors appreciate the helpful rangers, clean facilities, and proximity to the beach and bay. While some noted minor inconveniences like limited parking and a lack of showers, the overall experience is positive, with many eager to return.

The campsite was very clean and somewhat private. There were not too many mosquitoes .
We had great weather, which helps with any camping experience.

Overall, everything was very good during my stay. The park troopers in the camping area were fantastic, and the bathrooms were very clean and well maintained.
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATION: CAMPSITES SHOULD BE CHECKED BY PARK TROOPERS DURING THE NIGHT TO VERIFY THAT THE OCCUPANTS MATCH THE REGISTERED RESERVATIONS.
During my stay, I noticed that campsite A2 appeared as closed/unavailable in the app, yet people were arriving late at night, setting up tents, and then leaving very early the following morning. Based on what I observed, it appeared that these individuals may not have had reservations for the campsite.
This type of activity could potentially become a safety concern because people who are not registered guests may be staying overnight without any information or identification on file with the park.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT PARK TROOPERS CONDUCT NIGHTTIME CHECKS OF THE CAMPSITES TO VERIFY THAT THE PEOPLE OCCUPYING EACH SITE HAVE A VALID RESERVATION AND THAT THE RESERVATION MATCHES THE OCCUPANTS. THIS SHOULD BE DONE REGULARLY, AS THIS TYPE OF ACTIVITY APPEARED TO BE HAPPENING REPEATEDLY.
Other than this concern, I had a very good experience. The staff, park troopers, cleanliness, and overall camping environment were excellent.

this year the August bug infestation never happened YAY but I was sorry that the water wasn’t working and the closest one was at the bike trails … strange to brush your teeth with so many people riding by; other than that everything was really really wonderful

Park Rangers are always accommodating and very friendly. If there’s an issue they always try to work it out and many times it does indeed get worked out. We camp so often that they’ve gotten to know me and my son on a first name basis. During a resend Fourth of July week stay I was looking to extend and requested that if things open up and come available please let us know. Then, within just a couple of hours the Rangers tracked us down on our campsite to let us know something will come available please sign up within the next 30 minutes… my son and I did just that. It was an amazing week with the historic boats moored right in the Sandy Hook Bay and the Rangers made it all the better.
Thank you for your hospitality and excellent friendly service.

Campsite was wonderful. Clean, conveniently across from the beach and offers well maintained and equipped campsites. Parking was easy and the staff was super friendly. I will come back.

The overlook at Lot M should be packed at all times with how cool it is but seems to be a hidden gem. And If going in late July bring water proof bags so you don’t have the field roaches living in everything lol
