About Cochiti Campground

Cochiti Recreation Area is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Indian Reservation. The lake offers two public recreation areas: Cochiti on the west side of the lake and Tetilla Peak on the east side. Both sides offer spectacular scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. The Cochiti Dam is one of the ten largest earth-fill dams in the United States, and also one of the largest in the world. The lake derives its name from the Indian Pueblo on the Cochiti Reservation.

Beautiful area and you are within travel distance of Valles Caldera, Madrid, Alb and Santa Fe. Laundromat close to entrance of park...groceries and other amenities much further

This is a very nice, well-maintained park, but park management's ridiculous last-minute change in the reservation system made our stay very stressful and unpleasant. Our planned stay spanned the time period when the sites transitioned from reservation to first-come-first-served, in mid October. Since we would be in the site when it became fcfs this shouldn't have been a problem---EXCEPT---about two/three days before the sites would have switched to first-come-first-served they changed to reservation only! This would not have been a problem if the park would have notified campers who already had reservations and planned to extend their stay into the fcfs timeperiod--giving these campers the first chance to reserve their sites. But, that didn't happen, so many campers got kicked out because someone else reserved their site, though just days before the sites were fcfs. What a mess!

This is one of the most beautiful campsites we have had. We had glorious sunsets. Hummingbirds abundant. The facilities are nice. It is a bit of a long walk to the beach. I would recommend driving down.

Our site was right next to the garbage dumpster. It was filled and overflowing when we arrived and was like that for several days before it was picked up. Was horrible to see such a site. other than that, the campground was ok. Needs some TLC. Luckily we had an extension cord for our trailer to reach the electric pedestal since it was way up the hill.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
