The employee folks were polite and very helpful. I’m not happy about the 2-3 week limitation however.

Outstanding and helpful staff. Great location for visiting New York. Listen to the Rangers when they give you tips about your NY stay - they gave us tons of great advice. One definitely should take Ferry from Rockaway to Wall Street.

Lack of security and quietness. The tent and rv area is a full day playground, open to public, for everybody that comes in with their car to race ( the campground is built on an ancien airport) or to drive around the old airport tarmac ( where the RV section is ) which is a huge "kind of" parking lot, where vehicule can come in and out as they wish at anytime. The day is quieter and more peacefull as people park near the water for fishing or resting, but at night, it can get scary. The campground patrol dont answer the phone, event if it supposed to be 24h00 service. I think they are also scared about what they can deal with during the night...We had everyday and night challenge, from people driving around and screaming for over an hour during the night before security came to stop it, ( we and other campers also called the police because no campground security was there to insure it ) and RV neighbour running a generator NON_STOP, event if rules strictly limited it. No patrol came to stop it...
The two positive side where, the location of the campground neir public transportation to reach New-York city and the cheap price.

Finding a place to camp without having to leave New York City and sign up for a lottery to obtain a spot may seem impossible. But a national park in Brooklyn tells a different story due to its convenient—yet also secluded—location that replicates the feel of an actual campground. From kayaking to hiking around the historic parts of the park, there is always something for everyone to enjoy while indulging in your stay. Although every activity available is included with a reservation, some activities require a purchase of gear. The only activity where gear is provided would be kayaking, where life jackets/vests and boats are available. The only disadvantage of camping at Floyd Bennett Field is the campground's close proximity to the NYPD Aviation Unit base, where the sounds of helicopters throughout the night can be a nuisance to light sleepers who should consider either dealing with it as white noise or purchasing something to avoid being startled awake.

This place is great! Best and most affordable way to camp in NYC! It is not your typical park, as it is an old airfield, but it was perfect for us to experience NYC.

It was a little tricky getting through the narrow street of Brooklyn to get to the park but the location was really cool. The kids loved the old airport hanger and runways. They enjoyed a walk down by the water and the adventure of riding the bus to the subway and taking the subway into city. We found the sites were Quite a way from the bus stop but there is a city park at the entrance break the main road. We drove our rv the couple of miles to the park and left it parked there while we road the bus. We weren’t sure if we were supposed to but nothing said not to and no one gave us any trouble. It was about 10-15 min bus ride to the subway and maybe 30-45 min into downtown (time square, Statue of Liberty, etc.) much more economical and more like camping than the one super pricy rv park we found in the city proper. The rv sites were really just parking spots with a picnic table on the old tarmac but the tent sites were in the medians between the runways and had grass and tree cover. There were vault toilets I believe and garbage but no water, sewer or electrical hookups. we would totally stay here again and maybe next time bring our inflatable kayaks as there were many people kayaking off the little boat ramp in the park here. There were also people fishing but we didn’t try it.
