Carterville Acres

My husband & I had a wonderful time staying at Carterville the last weekend of May 2026. We camped Friday night to Sunday morning. Our tradition of going the weekend after Memorial Day paid off: we were the only ones in their RV/tent loop! I know last weekend, all their cabins were full, and I think nearly all the RV sites as well. We spend twenty-five per night for a rustic site without water or electric.
Before we arrived, I received an email from the owner, Amanda. She upgraded us to a better site that was closer to their restrooms, which did have electric and water! We don’t have an RV or hookup conversion so we did not use the power. But it was nice to have a tap right at our site! The RV sites also all have picnic tables and fire pits.

The site was newly graveled, nice and flat. They had pretty solar lanterns down the path at this loop too. The bathrooms were immaculate. The shower in the wash house has me wanting to upgrade mine at home… let me repeat, their shower is better than at home. They actually have paper towels in all the bathrooms as well!

There is a separate area after the wash house where the cabins are located. They also have tent areas that are not yet in service. We walked by one of the two tent areas, the one near the playground (which also has swings that can hold my fully grown self.) I already know I want to camp there when it’s ready. Talk about getting back into nature, you will right in the trees!

Right beside the cabin area is a lodge. There are games and puzzles to share inside. Outside is the community fire pit and some nice Adirondack chairs. The parking area for the cabins is right near the washrooms. It does appear that the RV sites are the only ones you can actually drive into and park directly in your site. This is a place for people who really want to camp camp! But…. It’s also great for beginners too. When I completed my check in, there were also options to even have a tent set up for you before you even arrived! They really have your back here.

And the pièce de résistance is the private beach. Carterville Pond is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen this year. I’m not in shape by any means, but it was still a pretty nice and easy walk from my campsite to the waterfront. You can also drive there, or even bring a boat. There is a small swimming pond inside the larger body of Carterville Pond. There’s a fun little loop to walk around the mini pond. They also have kayaks available for free use!
The only other campers, a family in the cabin area, were there to fish. I’m told they had good luck and found a few different varieties of fish, including smallmouth bass and pickerel.

It was also really cool to see some of the older structures from the property’s history as a Girl Scouts camp. Not all the buildings are in order yet, but they have many adorable lodges in the works. Including a bath house that was paid for by the sale of 49,000 boxes of cookies!

I spoke to the owner a couple times over email and phone. She was very sweet and very accommodating. I really cannot recommend this campgrounds enough!! Y’all definitely need to check out Carterville Acres Family Campground!

The owners are amazing! They are doing a great job making the entire campground accessible for everyone. The campsites are well spaced and have enough privacy for a comfortable outdoor feel. The amenities are fantastic. Carterville Acres is definitely my new go to for an amazing getaway spot.

I’ve been to this campground a handful of times now with my family and on friend trips. It’s consistently great. The cabins are extremely clean with new microwaves and mini fridges. The communal lodges have games and books and are stocked with a lot of things that you would need for camping. The firewood is a great price. We’ve enjoyed the walking trails and taking the canoe out on the lake. The campground has plenty of canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and life jackets freely available to borrow. My kids enjoy the playground that is by the RV campsites. The campground added a brand new bathhouse for this year. Highly recommend!

Just took my 6 and 7-year-old daughters to Carterville Acres just outside of Syracuse, and we had the absolute best time!

The cabins felt brand new, and the heaters kept us super toasty. Having a mini-fridge and microwave right in the cabin was incredibly convenient with young kids. We loved the covered porches for relaxing out of the rain, and the Adirondack chairs and fire pit made for perfect evenings.

The property itself is beautiful and spacious. The forest is gorgeous, the trails are well-marked for peaceful hikes, and there is a great playground. My daughters had an absolute blast exploring! When they finally got tuckered out, we spent time in the cozy communal cabin doing puzzles, playing games, and just staring at the wonderful large fireplace. We stayed for two nights, and they didn’t ask to watch anything on my phone even once—which was a truly wonderful surprise!

On top of that, the owners were so friendly and accommodating. Everything is clearly well-taken care of, and you can see they are actively making even more improvements. We already can't wait to see what’s new on our next trip—which will hopefully be very soon! This is officially our family’s new go-to camping spot.

Great upgrades to this campground. Very easy to get to and immediately feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. Cabins stayed nice and warm on some chilly nights. Trails were well marked. Kids loved the little brook! Plenty of space to not feel in top of other campers, as long as you are comfortable sharing common spaces. Make sure you bring your own drinking water. Reservations were easy and informative. Great place to hang out with friends!
