The campground is conveniently located just off I-94, but highway noise was not an issue for us. It provides easy access to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. Sites are nice, paved, and most have at least some shade.
The campground has two loops—one with reservable sites and the other with first-come, first-served sites. EXCEPT… after Labor Day, when all sites become first-come, first-served. This is not clearly communicated at the campground (although it is noted on Recreation.gov), and the reservable loop has permanent “Reserved” signs on each site-number post. Unfortunately, we watched many RVs drive through looking for a site, only to leave apparently thinking the sites were reserved, when in fact more than 70% were open and went unused for the three nights we stayed.
We would definitely stay here again.
If you’re planning to visit the newly opened Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, buy your tickets in advance. Admission is by timed entry, and it appears that many days sell out. We had 1:30 p.m. tickets, were able to get in about 15 minutes early, and stayed until closing at 4:00 p.m. We enjoyed it and would have liked to have had even more time.
