Under the Stars Campground

Rather remote, stargazing opportunities, services ok. Would have liked to see better paths around shower house. Rate very reasonable. Choice of shaded or not so shaded. Fairly level sites. Fire ring and picnic table each site . Van camping friendly. No ridiculous "age of unit" restrictions

I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful campground while in the area for a work project. The campground is a place to get away from it all and be surrounded by nature. It is peaceful and quiet. The owner, Kelli, is one of the best as well! The grounds are kept up, well-manicured. If you are in the area and looking for a quiet get-away, this is your place. And the pond adds to the aesthetics!! If I am back in the area again, I will definitely give Kelli a call!!

Pros:

Quiet
Decent size campsites, some with plenty of shade.
Fishing Pond
Close to Athens - our reason for coming
Stargazing - best ive seen locally
Electric and water campsites

Cons:

Facilities - bathrooms were " run down ". Definitely not to State Park or premium campsite cost level. Not to mention, we stayed 3 days and they were never cleaned nor filled with paper towels. Shower has one valve that let's in lukewarm water at a trickle. No hot/ cold adjustment. It was chilly at night and the shower was awful. If you use your own campers facilities, not an issue.
Cost- dont think the cost is justified.
Care- the grass wasn't maintained and the field beside our campsite was pretty high as was the hill around the pond.

All in all it was ok. Definitely room for improvement. Upgrading the bathhouse facilities is where I would start. Taking better care of the grounds and pond would improve it as well. Maybe then the price per night would be justified. As someone who has camped all over the Eastern US, from private campgrounds, boondocking, and State Parks, this is just my two cents. I would probably return if needed.

We had a great time during our stay! This was our first time camping here and it was exactly what we were looking for. It’s very peaceful and quiet. Very close to lake hope state park as well as Athens, but it’s off the beaten path. The owner was very nice, and made sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend camping here. We will definitely be back!

This was our first time staying at this campground. The owner was wonderful. She worked out something for my husband and I to accommodate our stay. The camper host was awesome too! We had a very relaxing weekend and we will be back. They do have showers and flush toilets which is a plus. If you bike ride, there are pretty country roads to ride on and very low traffic.
