I had read about water being available at the campground but it sure was hard to find! I had to drive around each loop until I found a camp host and ask where I could find water even then it was hard to get to since it was all overgrown and slippery from algae. I swear I had read about water hook-ups in the loop we stayed in. What a surprise when there was only electric hook-ups.
It was nice and quiet. Our site had a view of the lake which was nice.
Bathrooms were like saunas in the August heat.
Our site and the few we walked through had a lot of trash on the ground and in the fire rings which was a bit disappointing. Wish there was a way to charge previous campers a cleaning fee if they don't clean up their trash.

It was so much fun camping at Doris. We saw squirrels, deer, raccoons, lizards, birds, coyotes, and spiders, and all that was at our campsite.

The site had plenty of room but you had to walk to another loop to find water and I was right by the bathhouse. But it’s a beautiful area and worth checking out.

Exceeded my expectations. I was disappointed by the lack of free camping areas near the refuge, but Doris Campground ended up being about $20 bucks and way better than I had imagined. I did some research and chose a campsite that is sort of more isolated and quieter than normal, so I had my own lil slice of nature to myself. My site even had a little trail that led down into a creek. The only wildlife I encountered in camp were a few mischievous raccoons, so I felt very safe. I was able to catch some early morning hiking out in the refuge directly from the campground. I will be coming here again in the future, highly recommend!

My campsite is one of my favorites. The bathrooms and showers were clean. I did miss having a camp host.

From I-44 take Highway 49 (exit 45). Go west 7 miles to the Refuge gate or 14 miles to the Visitor Center. If coming from Highway 62, take Highway 115 (Cache exit) north to the Refuge Gate.
Doris Campground is accessible via I-44 and Highway 49, with Highway 49 leading west for 7 miles to the Refuge gate. Additionally, Highway 62 is nearby, with Highway 115 providing access to the Refuge gate.
