About Doris Campground

Worn by time and nature, the Wichita Mountains loom large above the prairie in southwest Oklahoma—a lasting refuge for wildlife. Situated just outside the Lawton/Ft. Sill area, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge preserves approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams for the benefit of wildlife and the American people. Best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk, Wichita Mountains also offers quality opportunities for wildlife dependent recreation including fishing, bird watching, wildlife photography, hiking, camping, and kayaking.

Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. Many campers appreciated the clean bathrooms and friendly camp hosts, as well as the opportunity for hiking and exploring the nearby Wichita Mountains. Wonderful place. If visiting in fall check out Rush Lake in the evening to hear the Elk Bugle.

I would say beware raccoons! They tore a 12inch hole in the tent. They tore the rubber seal off our locked tailgate trying to get in it. They got so close to husband and son they could reach them. They literally tried to take my sons hotdog from him! We have never experienced such boldness and have been camping many times throughout the years. They were actually concerning they were so bold and I would be worried if I had smaller children. They tore into and was able to open some other things. Beyond that, wonderful experience in a beautiful place. The raccons even brought us good fun stories to tell, but again, I would worry about smaller children while they were eating.
