About Doris Campground

Worn by time and nature, the Wichita Mountains loom large above the prairie in southwest Oklahoma—a lasting refuge for wildlife. Situated just outside the Lawton/Ft. Sill area, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge preserves approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams for the benefit of wildlife and the American people. Best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk, Wichita Mountains also offers quality opportunities for wildlife dependent recreation including fishing, bird watching, wildlife photography, hiking, camping, and kayaking.

Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. Many campers appreciated the clean bathrooms and friendly camp hosts, as well as the opportunity for hiking and exploring the nearby Wichita Mountains. I stayed at Doris in July 2023. The campgrounds are clean and easy to navigate. The staff and camp host are awesome. They offered ice and bundles of firewood on site. The ice comes in 7 lb bags and are $3 for 1, or $5 for 2. The firewood was $5 for 1 bundle. (Prices may change). There is no playground for kids and they ask that you do not swim in the waters. The campground is within the refuge so do not be surprised if a group of Longhorn, deer, elk, buffalo, or even turkey come strolling through the site. Snakes are a common occurrence. The campground only has one bathroom/shower house with additional outhouse style restrooms. You will have to walk or drive to the showers. There is no cell reception. Overall it is a great site.

Our camp was raided by coyotes , a mountain lion, and racoons we had to sleep in the car. Other than that its always great to visit and camp. Very beautiful grounds overall.

Campground was amazing and so was the hike. The only downside is the lack of adequate and clean restrooms.
