About Doris Campground

Worn by time and nature, the Wichita Mountains loom large above the prairie in southwest Oklahoma—a lasting refuge for wildlife. Situated just outside the Lawton/Ft. Sill area, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge preserves approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams for the benefit of wildlife and the American people. Best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk, Wichita Mountains also offers quality opportunities for wildlife dependent recreation including fishing, bird watching, wildlife photography, hiking, camping, and kayaking.

Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. Many campers appreciated the clean bathrooms and friendly camp hosts, as well as the opportunity for hiking and exploring the nearby Wichita Mountains. However, some guests noted challenges in finding water access and occasional litter left by previous campers, but overall, the positive experiences and natural beauty outweigh the negatives.

The campsite was well-marked and clean. There were functional restrooms nearby and we were given good instructions on how to get there from the gate worker.

The site pads are very narrow and poorly constructed. It made it difficult to get in and out of the trailer safely. The entire campground needs updated well-built pads. I was expecting more for such a wonderful tourist area. I was disappointed in the campground.

The campground rules are very unclear. The check-in house states you are allowed to have 4 tents per site (along with information on the website), but then we were told we were only allowed to have 3 tents? Do not recommend for big group camping. In addition, during our stay groups around us had fires going during a burn ban. Rules felt inconsistently enforced.
