About Doris Campground

Worn by time and nature, the Wichita Mountains loom large above the prairie in southwest Oklahoma—a lasting refuge for wildlife. Situated just outside the Lawton/Ft. Sill area, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge preserves approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams for the benefit of wildlife and the American people. Best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk, Wichita Mountains also offers quality opportunities for wildlife dependent recreation including fishing, bird watching, wildlife photography, hiking, camping, and kayaking.

What Guests Are Saying

Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. Many campers appreciated the clean bathrooms and friendly camp hosts, as well as the opportunity for hiking and exploring the nearby Wichita Mountains. However, some guests noted challenges in finding water access and occasional litter left by previous campers, but overall, the positive experiences and natural beauty outweigh the negatives.

With the exception of a few ticks the trails were great. The kids really enjoyed themselves camping for a few days. Campsite was exactly as expected. Its only a four hour drive so we will for sure be back. There was no cell service and it was great.

Beautiful campground in a true nature refuge. The campground's focus is to leave as little impact on the native plants and animals while still allowing respectful people to enjoy the nature and camp.
There are no water connections, only potable water at the dump station, so prepare for that and its fine.
Our site was shady and had a pretty area for the picnic table and fire ring.
Gloriously, there's no wifi, cell service, TV or radio stations for distractions. If you need to make calls, just go up close to the visitor center and there's good AT&T service.
There's beautiful large tent sites and group sites as well.
We especially enjoyed the Sounds and Feels of Freedom from the Red Legs on the live fire Artillery ranges at Ft. Sill.

We had a great time camping in a tent. We saw a wild buffalo up close and deer and geese from further away as well as turkeys. The bathroom and showers were clean and serviceable.

Our campsite was pretty nice! We would recommend the two difficult-rated hikes if you're up for some rock scrambling and a workout. Our favorite spots were probably Mount Scott and the mountain we hiked a difficult hike on (Elk Mountain?). This second one was a lot of fun because of the rock scrambling and pretty big open area at the top of the mountains to explore.

Volunteer hosts were friendly and helpful. It would be great if water was accessible at each electric site.

We love Doris campground and love staying right on the refuge! We stayed in loop E which has many fully shaded spots and electric access. We stayed close to the main restroom/bathhouse which was very convenient. I hope the bathhouse is updated soon but we still appreciate a place to shower on site. It was very quiet while we were there and no excess lighting. Our main purpose there was to view the scenery and wildlife. I feel like we will be back soon.
