About Doris Campground

Worn by time and nature, the Wichita Mountains loom large above the prairie in southwest Oklahoma—a lasting refuge for wildlife. Situated just outside the Lawton/Ft. Sill area, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge preserves approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams for the benefit of wildlife and the American people. Best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk, Wichita Mountains also offers quality opportunities for wildlife dependent recreation including fishing, bird watching, wildlife photography, hiking, camping, and kayaking.

Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. Many campers appreciated the clean bathrooms and friendly camp hosts, as well as the opportunity for hiking and exploring the nearby Wichita Mountains. I am an avid rock climber, and have been since the 80s. The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has been held together and managed very well with the huge increases in tourist traffic and other negative impacts.

Great place to camp tent or RV. Lots of wildlife in the area, it’s connected to the hiking trails and not far away from town. The campground Hosts are always friendly and present here. Only downside is The bathrooms are in need of remodeling or rebuild, but that’s unfortunately the case with a lot of the state and national parks anymore.

The campground has potable water!! The Recreation.gov website has not been updated letting campers know that the campground now has potable water available at all the water hydrants within the campground. Knowing this information before we traveled to the campground would have saved us the weight and extra fuel to fill our fresh tank prior to leaving our home. Otherwise, the Camp Host was great and we had a wonderful time camping at Cam Doris.
