Doris Campground

Very nice campground, well maintained, excellent shower and bathroom facilities. Don't forget to screen shot or print your reservation info. There is no cell phone service at the campground and the employee at the gate house did not have a list of names, reservations or campsite #'s when we came in at 4PM on a Friday. Fortunately I remembered my campsite # and the employee let me through.

Very convenient and quiet. The previous guests left a lot of debris. I cleaned the area. The dumpster was beside my site and very convenient to clean the area. The location to the Refuge was wonderful.

Clear camp sites and plenty of shade during the hot days.

A fantastic Campground, well maintained with plenty of shade and most of the sites. The Wichita Mountains wildlife refuge is first class all around. Beautiful ecosystem and the facilities like the visitor center or excellent.

I enjoyed my stay at the campground (tent camping). Plenty of wildlife to see in the area. Wild Turkey, Northern Bobwhites everywhere. Many other birds to see if you are a bird nerd. Bison, Texas Longhorn, Rocky Mountain Elk, Eastern Collard Lizards, and hiking the beautiful mountains and plains. Visitors Center was great. Do not expect cell service or WIFI...it doesn't exist in the campground. I was able to get cell service at Quanah Parker Lake parking area, a few miles to the east. The lake was a great place to watch birds. Overall, Doris Campground was clean and quiet. Other campers were overall respectful and nice. The restroom/shower house building was clean and nice. I gave the campground a 4 star as the campsite I had the first night was trashed when I arrived. Someone bought one time use items and then just threw it everywhere when they left. Towels in the bushes, tent box, chip bags, food, and other trash. I didn't see any other campsites like this, so definitely some people who didn't care about the campground or who was to stay there next. I was not able to find the camp host for a few days, then their camper was just gone and the host campsite cleared out. I cleaned the sight the best I could and was able to find staff one afternoon and let them know. They were extremely polite. Overall, an excellent trip. Unfortunately there's always the few that ruin things for everyone else. I recommend camping here!

We always enjoy our trips to Doris campground and the park in general. Even though there is not water at each site, there is water accessible at each area. Good fishing and abundant wildlife. Hiking trails are excellent.

Electric site 58E is shaded and angled across the road from the restrooms and showers.

There was one HUGE DRAW BACK!!!!
We had a heavy rain Thursday night.
If I had been in a trailer or RV it wouldn't have been as bad. I was in my
Northface Wawona 6, a great tent, and it held up great. However, the Campsite Did Not!!!!
The campsite flooded and filled with mud due to the fact that the diversion ditch on the North was Not maintained and had deteriorate to the point that it no longer diverted water as intended from the campsite. The tent site was
1 &1/2 inches deep in mud and stayed muddy in 1/2 of the site for the remaining 3 days after the Thursday night rain. When i took my tent down on Sunday there was 1/2 inch of mud on top of the Protective Ground Cloth. Additionally impacted was the eating and cooking (grill) area. The north end of the cement table and benches along with the grill were unusable.
Tony the camp host was the only bright side. He insisted on coming over and shoveling the mud out of the table and grill areas.
It was not fun packing up a muddy ground cloth and tent...when I got home I had a job to do to undo the muddy damage.

Please note, Tony, the camp host could not have been better, and you can as I do, credit Tony for making the experience a lot easier to tolerate.
