What Guests Are Saying
Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. This is my favorite campground ever! Here are the Top 10 reasons why I love this place so much:
1. The abundance of wildlife! While I was there, I saw longhorn steer, bison, deer, turkeys, turtles, and lots of birds. This refuge also supports elk, but I’ve never seen them here.
2. The abundance of lakes adds to its beautiful scenery. There are a total of 13 lakes within the refuge.
3. Lots of great hiking trails! There are about 15 miles of marked trails.
4. While many newer RV parks tend to remind me of a bland & boring parking lot, this place has so much character. It’s loaded with lots of trees which provide for a sense of both peacefulness and privacy.
5. At night, it’s extremely dark & peaceful. It’s so dark that it’s nearly impossible to find the bath house without a flashlight. The only noise comes from the howling coyotes off in the distance.
6. There’s no cell service, which makes it much easier to remain present and enjoy your camping experience. But, if you do need to grab cell service, Crater Lake has a solid signal and is just 2.3 miles away.
7. Meers Store & Restaurant is just 9 miles away. It’s a great place to grab dinner as they’re well-known for their 1-pound hamburgers!
8. They have a brand new bath house. They also have multiple new vault toilets, which are surprisingly nice.
9. Because it’s a Wildlife Refuge, the deer are quite tame and so much fun to watch.
10. I feel like it’s such a healthy place to visit. The trees & wildlife and rivers & lakes are full of good vibes & positive energy. This area allows for time to heal and even find a bit of mental clarity!!

I've been coming to WMWR since 1992 and the WMWR never ceases to amaze me. Camp Doris has always been my basecamp for technical rock climbing and hiking. The "new and improved" bath house and latrines are great.
If you're new to the area, check out the visitor center for a better understanding of the I
first peoples of the area, the geology, and how all the animals coexist and their importance to one another.
If you love hamburgers, go check out Meers. And head into Medicine Park to the Plantation for dinner.

From I-44 take Highway 49 (exit 45). Go west 7 miles to the Refuge gate or 14 miles to the Visitor Center. If coming from Highway 62, take Highway 115 (Cache exit) north to the Refuge Gate.
Doris Campground is accessible via I-44 and Highway 49, with Highway 49 leading west for 7 miles to the Refuge gate. Additionally, Highway 62 is nearby, with Highway 115 providing access to the Refuge gate.
