About Doris Campground

Worn by time and nature, the Wichita Mountains loom large above the prairie in southwest Oklahoma—a lasting refuge for wildlife. Situated just outside the Lawton/Ft. Sill area, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge preserves approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie, ancient granite mountains, and fresh water lakes and streams for the benefit of wildlife and the American people. Best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk, Wichita Mountains also offers quality opportunities for wildlife dependent recreation including fishing, bird watching, wildlife photography, hiking, camping, and kayaking.

Doris Campground offers a serene environment with beautiful views, well-maintained facilities, and abundant wildlife, making it a great choice for nature lovers. Many campers appreciated the clean bathrooms and friendly camp hosts, as well as the opportunity for hiking and exploring the nearby Wichita Mountains. Campground is shaded and the sites have plenty of space between them. They were also very clean. The campground hosts keep the property clear of trash. I like the new shower house and bathrooms. We saw lots of longhorn cattle (even two by the shower house!), and lots of bison near the roadways. The hiking trails are very scenic, however, hard to follow with all the rocks.

The people running this place are first rate. I made a mistake in the reservation and when we came back to camp other canoers were in my space. Totally my fault. The folks running the compound packed my things neatly and even offered me a different space. When I'm in the area this is my spot fron now on.

Campsites are well spaced. We had an electric site, but tent camped. There was plenty of flat space for our two tents.
