Hyatt Lake Recreation Area

The Wildcat campground further down the east side of the lake to me is much preferable to the main campground. It's smaller, more quiet. No host at that site but he did drive over to check. One toilet was locked due to maintenance needs but the other one was available. The water is low but it was still quite pretty. Sites are plenty large and level, all with lake views.

Noisy neighbors until 3am were a problem. Wildlife was incredible. David and Vicky the hosts were great.

There was not a lot of water in the lake which is no one's fault, but the camp host of Loop A, a man named David, was absolutely out of control. Someone told him that one of our dogs was off its leash and he came over to our camp screaming and shaking his fist at me (a 63 yr old woman). He did not identify himself or give us a chance to explain or apologize. He was so vicious that my service dog stepped up to protect me because he was storming into our camp. The camp host in Loop C, Ben and Kimberly, were wonderful and friendly and kept the bathrooms clean and the atmosphere much more friendly. This guy needs to be fired.

Very quiet and clean campground. Host were very nice. I'm the reason I gave it a four was the lake was down and really didn't have access to bank fishing because of the weeds.

This was one of my favorite campsites i stayed at on a 10 day trip across Oregon and CA. So beautiful to wake up on the lake in the Wildcat area. The campsites were well maintained, the bathroom was a little less pleasurable and no sink but I was already “roughing it” so just glad to have a bathroom. I got to paddle board on the lake at sunset and it was so nice with deer grazing on the lakeside. Only thing about the lake is the amount of geese make the edge of the lake a bit muddy to get in. Overall a nice 8/10 experience!

We throughly enjoy our week at Hyatt. Surrounded with tress, and the noise of nature. My kids spent hours fishing, and paddle boarded in the reservoir.
Campground is clean. Campground Hosts are AMAZING!

Still our favorite annual camp. This year there was a full outhouse and the pumper was delayed -one star less than excellent. Lake water level matters.

Great Lake even if the water was very low. Great camping spot. Have to say getting to this park with a trailer caused concern. Everyone said to not use OR 66 and for good reason. We decided to come a longer way through Klamath falls. Having flush toilets and showers is a plus for a BLM park

Didn’t even stay there. Went to Howard’s Prairie instead! I called the day prior to my reservation and confirmed that fires were good to use if in a designated pit…get all the way there and the fire pits are chained up. Out of almost $40 and honestly would like a refund!!

The horse camp itself proved to be very dry challenging. Upon arrival we drove up to a locked gate. Nowhere on recreation.gov did it mention a gate or a lock or code number. We barely had any cell service at all, but fortunately we’re able to make a call to a local Ranger station (after googling the phone number as it was not provided on the gate).
Upon driving into camp, there are no level sites for trailers. We had to be very creative in determining how we parked the three rigs.
We were aware that there is no potable water at camp, but there is potable water at the adjacent camp about a quarter a mile away. We did take hoses and a pump to pump water out of the lake for the horses. After setting all of this up the friendly camp host came over and in casual conversation mentioned that there was a blue algae issue in lake and that kids and pets had been getting sick from ingesting water.
We then drove to adjacent camp to find out that The hand pump on the water well was extremely difficult to use and that there was no hose threads on the pump to pump the water into our 35 gallon tanks in the back of our truck. This meant we had to hand pump into a bucket and then put our battery operated pump in the bucket to push water through the hose up into our truck bed. If it sounds challenging, it was!!
On a positive note, David and Vikki, the camp hosts were absolutely wonderful!!! it was also lovely to watch the bald eagle and the osprey dive for fish in the lake every evening while lounging in our chairs. Trails are limited as it’s an out and back on the PCT so you see the same thing each ride. Elevation and temperature were nice. Will not likely return there but all and all we managed to have a great trip with a group of friends!
