What Guests Are Saying

The Fall River Guard Station offers a lovely and well-kept cabin with great amenities, including a working propane fridge and stove, and is ideally located for fly fishing and nearby attractions. However, it experiences high foot traffic, which can detract from the peaceful experience, and the lighting system requires a significant number of batteries, which may be inconvenient. Overall, it's a great spot for those seeking outdoor activities, but visitors should be prepared for the busyness and plan for alternative lighting solutions.

First off it is a high traffic area for fly fishing and trail walkers. If you dont mind that and are looking to be close to an awesome
Fly fishing hole right out the back door then this is the right place for you! I took the kiddo so it was real nice to be able to go back to the cabin and hang out throughout the day. We set up some hammocks by the water and although there is some traffic up front it’s also peaceful and beautiful. The inside of the cabin was well kept with a working propane heater, propane fridge, dining area, nice beds and comfy futon. My one HUGE problem with the place is the lighting. It’s listed as having propane lighting but it seems to have been removed. It now has 14 battery powered lights in the walls throughout the cabin. It’s a decent sized cabin and these battery lights take 6 AA batteries each. The batteries do not last very long.. there was ten batteries there and I brought 8 with me for flashlights. Almost all the lights were dead or almost dead when I got there. 84 batteries! It takes 84 batteries to fully run this place and they will only last the weekend. This system seems careless and NOT environmentally friendly. I do have several lanterns but I only brought one since I was relying on the inside having propane lighting. So just a heads up plan on a lighting alternative or come with 84 AA batteries.

Pros, 2 decent size bedrooms, working propane fridge and stove. Fall River begins from a hillside perhaps 200 feet from the cabin. Super clear river. Lots of able fly fishers.

Close to many PsOI. Nearby fish hatchery is a must visit, feed em. Easy access to Bend, tube float the river through town! High Desert Museum, 20 minutes away, really cool. Newberry Volcanic NM a must visit.

Cons, you share a vault toilet and parking lot with the public. Some road noise, very little at night.

Nice Cabin. To many people! I have stayed at a few guard stations and this one by far was the busiest. There were all kinds of visitors from sunrise to sunset. It would be great for those fly fishermen who want to get away. Probably won't revisit this one.

The riverside location is beautiful (I highly recommend walking or running along the river trail), and the cabin is cute. Unfortunately, the fridge wasn't working when we were there, and the furnace was barely functioning. We spent most of our indoor time in our sleeping bags. (We were there in November.) The lighting will barely keep you from walking into walls. Definitely bring headlamps or electric lanterns for use in late afternoon/evening hours. Also, this is not a remote location! It's only about 10 minutes from Sunriver, on a fairly well-traveled road. That's helpful for going out for groceries, or finding things to do, but if you're looking for a secluded cabin, this is not the one for you.

Awesome location. The fireplace kept going out was the only issue. Having the river out the back door was beautiful!

Beautiful location on a fly fishing river with lots of fishermen to watch. Great location as base for various hikes. That being said, the cabin itself was a bit more of an adventure than I was up for. It's only as clean as the previous guests, and the resident mice, leave it. No running water so bring a bucket to carry river water for mopping and antibacterial wipes for the mattresses and kitchen surfaces. Battery lights are very dim. You'll need to wear a headlamp inside before the sun sets. Don't turn up the fridge...leave it set low at 1 or 2 or your food will freeze. The cabin is at a trailhead and the only restroom is the vault toilet in the parking lot with lots of visiting fishermen and hikers all day. My husband would say 4 stars, I would say 2 stars, so we compromised at 3 stars.

Excellent stay. Cabin was as clean as a historic cabin can be expected to be. The location a few feet from the river was epic. Although close to road and Trailhead, it was quiet and the few hikers and anglers did not bother us. A couple of resident mice in the cabin made a bit of a ruckus at night with stuff they played with, so put the food into the cabinets. Queen bed was comfy.

Okay experience. We expected it to be rustic and it was. We spend time cleaning out dead rodents, dirt, droppings. The furniture is very dated. Bring lighting, thr battery operated lights on the walls work as a nightlight but don't provide enough light to do anything by
