Fall River Guard Station is situated beneath a canopy of lodgepole pine on the banks of the Fall River in Deschutes National Forest. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, the cabin was originally used as an outpost to fight forest fires.
The cabin is an ideal setting for relaxation and recreation, and is available for reservation from April to October.

Fall River Guard Station, Loop: FALL RIVER GUARD STATION
Fall River Guard Station offers a beautiful, scenic cabin in a high-traffic area, ideal for fishing enthusiasts and family getaways. The cabin is well-maintained with a working propane heater and refrigerator, though improvements could be made, such as fixing the lack of water supply to the cabin and the shared public toilet. Guests appreciate the clean facilities and proximity to recreational activities, though the lighting system needs attention, as it relies heavily on batteries.
For the price, I think it's far too rustic to be charging that amount knowing there are cabins and yurts for rent at State Parks that are for the same price with updated amenities.
It is a very rustic cabin, with no running water. We did our cooking over a campfire outside. There was a refrigerator in the kitchen that was helpful, and a number of mice that scurried about at night. You could hike down either side of the river, and look at its origin from a spring that wells up right out of the rocks just a short ways from the cabin. The cabin was difficult to see from the road. It really helped to watch the mile markers so you knew when you were upon it. It was a very quite spot at night.
River is crystal clear and COLD. Saw bald eagles, osprey, mergansers, nighthawks, deer, and more just behind the cabin. Cabin has everything you need. Just be sure you keep track of the key, as the front door automatically locks. We had to crawl through the kitchen window at 11 p.m. more people around this year than last (flyfishers and tourists), but had it to ourselves early morning and late evening.
Great cabin/area/location. You have to share the parking lot and vault toilet with the general the public. There's no running water in the Station. Propane lights had been removed, but stove, fridge, and heater were working. Not sure what USFS will do about lighting in the future. (pv w/ battery?) It's probably not for everyone, but I've been before and would go again.
Great place. Nicely preserved historic guard station. The cabin is on the small size and has no water, however it is within a few feet of the headwaters of the Fall River which is perfect for filtering water. There is a pit toilet within 50 ft that is shared with day users, mostly folks fishing and collecting spring water. Stayed in early November and the propane fireplace was no match for the air leaks so it can be a bit cold. The lights apparently are set for an upgrade to solar, but currently are battery operated and pretty dim (best to bring your own lanterns).
