What Guests Are Saying

Mallard Marsh Campground is a well-maintained, beautiful rustic site, offering expansive views of the marsh with vibrant wildflowers and ample space for tents and campers. Visitors appreciate the clean and quiet environment, ideal for kayaking and enjoying nature, despite some concerns about noise from a camp host's generator. Overall, it remains a favorite destination for families, though improvements to facilities and reservation management could enhance the experience.

We had a good time at Mallard Marsh in early September in spot #4. HOWEVER there is room for improvement in the following areas: the road leading to and through the campground needs some work to reduce the dips and bumps that make your rig sway to the extremes; some of the spots need vegetation trimming since they could be very narrow (like spot #4) for some rigs, especially those with slides; and the path to the water access (between spots 14 AND 15) was a bit challenging to find. The campground map also needs to be updated to reflect changes to some spots: like #9 is a pull-thru, #13 where is shown is the camp host spot instead of the first come first serve pull through across from the host, and the garbage is centrally located at the beginning of the loop (with a bottle/can recycle bin) rather than cans being scattered throughout camp.
Fishing on Hosmer is best done via a kayak or float tube, while shore fishing and motorized boats are better suited for Elk Lake to the north and Lava Lake to the south. Additional amenities like dining can be found at Elk Lake Resort while Lava Lake Resort has a small store, pay showers, water, and a dump station.

Mallard Marsh is a nice, quiet campground with great access to Hosmer Lake. I’ve loved staying here over the years.

That said, site 10 is definitely not trailer or RV friendly despite the site listing saying it is. Pull through is very tight with stumps on each side and tree overgrowth making it nearly impossible to pull through with anything more than a smaller truck or SUV and maybe a small low clearance tear drop style trailer. There is no way I could have pulled our 25’ high clearance trailer through it even though it’s advertised for up to 30’ with enough tree clearance. I tried backing in as well which was not possible with the stumps and low hanging trees. Almost every other site is better for any high clearance trailer or RV. Luckily we found another we fit in just fine but had to pay again for another site as the host could not transfer which was annoying.

Love Mallard Marsh campground for its peacefulness. This is not a place for loud music and loud people--it is serene, quiet and great for paddling on Hosmer Lake with the many ducks, deer and other creatures. If you want luxury, this is not the place to find it. There's no water (bring your own) and the pit toilets are well-maintained and clean, but, well, they are pit toilets. Overall, I love this place exactly as it is: beautiful, rugged, quiet.

Mallard Marsh is a well maintained rustic campground. Though there are not views of Hosmer Lake, there is an expansive view of the marsh area, with wildflowers and many species of plants and trees.
