101 reviews
Willow Prairie Horsecamp is highly praised for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and attentive camp host, Dawn Cavanaugh. Reviewers appreciate the spacious campsites, excellent water troughs, and a variety of enjoyable trails that start right from the camp. While some minor improvements were noted regarding site leveling and safety of corrals, the overall experience is described as fantastic, peaceful, and supportive of equestrian activities.

This is a beautiful horse camp with a good camp host. Be prepared to keep your dogs on leash when in camp. There is abundant clean horse water in the troughs, but there is NO potable water, you will need to go to Fish Lake or Lake of the Woods nearby to refill your people water. Good manure disposal area with nice wheelbarrows.
There did seem to be some committed generator users. Folks, I don't know what you are doing with your electrical, but you really really should not need to run your generator for 8 hours a day!
The trails are very nice but it takes a bit to figure out the map. Only the main forest service trails are shown on the maps and there are a bunch of other trails winding around not far from camp. That said, the signed trails are quite good. The maps are available in the kiosk by the camp host. There are lots of trail markers with CAMP and an arrow, to help you find your way home...
We used this as our base, and one afternoon drove to nearby Fourmile Lake for a ride. Really not worth the 6 mi in and 6 mi back on a washboard gravel road....I think going to the Summit Snopark and riding the PCT would have been better. We did go to Lake of the Woods to get water and have dinner at the Lodge. It was very tasty but expensive. There is Potable water no far from the RV Dump station on the way into Lake of the Woods.

I was camp #9 and there was not a tiny bit of shade all day. Behind the camp are cows are they were loud all night long. I also was not impressed with the trails. It was more like riding on someone's ranch than in the mountains and the trails were not well marked. The markings they had were very confusing as you are not sure which way the trail # on the sign was representing. It just wasn't what I expected.

We had a great time exploring this area. The camp ground is very nice and the camp hosts are terrific people that have been involved with this campground for quite some time. They have a ton of great stories to tell and they know everyone.
The only knock against this place is the heavy use. The horse corrals at each site were soaked with urine and there was no time between visits for it to dry up. The smell of ammonia was hard to get away from while in camp.
We'll go back as there is so much more to explore.

The camp hosts are wonderful! The camp sites are well maintained and comfortable with excellent corrals for the horses. Clean water tanks are available for the horses. The trails are beautiful and abundant. I plan to return!
