Diamond Lake

Awesome view, great facilities (toilets, showers), but the gnats were horrible and severely detracted from our stay during early July.

The one plus of this campground is that it's near Crater Lake, other than that I would not suggest it. The bathrooms were so disgusting, I don't think they'd been cleaned for months. There were piles of dead bugs and what looked like throwup on the wall. There is only 1 spot on each loop to throw trash away. We didn't see a single person cleaning up campsites, bathrooms or showers the entire 4 days we were there. If you are going to stay bring bug tents and loads of bug spray, the mosquitos and gnats are awful in this area.

Wish we could have stayed longer

We stayed here for a night in July 10.
First all, the bathrooms were beyond dirty. It was like they hadn’t been cleaned in months, and the summer heat did nothing to help the smell. The smell was atrocious, and there was no sort of ventilation in the bathrooms either.

The camping and RV areas were mostly clean but they were still in bad condition overall.
Wouldn’t recommend choosing a spot next to the lake, specially during the summer due to the mosquitoes. The mosquitoes were perhaps the worst.
There were swarms and swarms of mosquitoes, it was to the point where we couldn’t get into our RV without letting them in.
It was impossible to stay outside for more than 10 mins, so we couldn’t even enjoy the view.

Minimal cell service. Very rustic sites. The rangers and host were very helpful!!

Clean, well maintained campsites and bathrooms. We spent most of our days at the lake down by the resort and marina, and rented paddle boats and kayaks. It’s a beautiful spot!

The Sheer beauty of the campground and surrounding area were spectacular. The bike/ hike trail around the lake were amazing. But the lack of care and maintenance of the restrooms and the showers was disgusting. Worse I’ve seen in 40 years of camping in Forest Service campgrounds. My recommendation is, fire the Camp Hosts and Camp Janitorial Service. Facilities were quite simply Gross!

First, let me say, We LOVE Diamond Lake campground. We normally just have the usual suspects in bugs and aren't overly bothered by them. This time, there was some type of midge fly hatching and there were billions, yes with a b, swarming. We couldn't sit by the lake this time without the bugs everywhere. They were in our tent, in our faces, in our food and they were unrelenting. This is not the campgrounds fault, but it was so bad we left early.
It didn't seem to be so bad if you were farther away from the lake, but we really enjoy sitting by the lake and watching the wildlife and sunsets, so we had booked a lakeside camping site.
We talked to an employee at the resort who has worked there 18 years and he said he has never seen it like that there and this was something new to the lake and they had been hatching and swarming for two weeks, so I'm kind of hoping that Recreation.gov will in the future put up a notice to those who have reservations that there is a hatch going on. If we had received a notice about it, we probably would have chosen a different site for our stay a bit farther away from the lake if one was available. But, we will try again next year and hopefully not have that problem.
This is our favorite place to camp. This site is pleasant, but just as an FYI, there isn't much shade at the site during the afternoon sun.

Beautiful location, will definitely be back!

This is a beautiful campground if you are along the lake (we were) and very quiet and well spaced camp spots. We were in site M4 (no hookups on this site but there is a dump station and water fill close to entrance of campground and we are self contained) and we had great neighbors for our entire stay. We stayed in early July and the bugs were crazy (being by the water we expected them and it also rained the day we arrived). Be prepared for LOTS of gnats and mosquitoes with bug spray and also have screens on your RV. Our van had literally hundreds of gnats all over it which some were still on the van after our 2 week and 3k mile trip. We loved this campground with decent showers and cannot fault the campground for the bugs, just be prepared for them if you come. It was close to Crater Lake NP which we visited for 2 days and it was beautiful and not very busy, certainly a must see. We would stay here again and would like more time to explore Diamond Lake area.
