Antlers Guard Station was built in 1935 for the fire crews who patrolled Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The Forest Roads were not yet well developed, and it was impractical for crews to travel daily between the remote parts of the forest and the ranger station. The Civilian Conservation Corps built this structure to allow crews to stay where they worked. Antlers Guard Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Guests who stay at Antlers Guard Station can still get away from it all while enjoying the basic comforts of home. The cabin is accessible by car.

The Antlers Guard Station Cabin is a cozy, well-stocked, and spacious retreat, ideal for enjoying the outdoors and observing free-range cattle. Guests appreciated the cleanliness and access to nearby hiking trails, although some raised concerns about uncomfortable sleeping arrangements and occasional mice. Overall, the cabin provides a relaxing experience, and many plan to return, potentially bringing additional bedding for improved comfort.
As other reviews state, rather large mouse problem. I wouldn't recommend using any kitchen ware due to the amount of mouse droppings on pans and such.
Setting remains beautiful.
We loved this cabin. It was easy to access, and cozy.
The free range cows in the yard were a surprise, but it was fun to observe them and their calves.
The beds were horrible. Not a mattress at all, but a sleeping pad with no personality. Please consider getting mattresses. It will improve the sleep experience for future guests.
Our hips and backs were messed up, so this is the reason for the 4/5.
We will probably reserve this cabin again in the future. We will just bring air mattress in case this doesn't change.
This was a great place to just sit and enjoy the outside! We visited sumpter and took a train ride, had a corn dog, and visited around our campfire! Amazing place to stay and just enjoy the outdoors!
We loved the cabin as soon as we saw it! Clean, organized, well-stocked, spacious for two
Mattresses were hard but we slept well. Fun to operate the water pump. Near the summer solstice, we never used the propane lights. Took multiple hikes off the gravel roads. Bonus was 100 cows herded by mounted cowpersons right by the cabin.
it's the same as at Currier Guard Station there needs to be a lock on the restroom with the same combination as the cabin. individuals who frequent the area feel they have the right to intrude and seem to have a well trodden trail for easy access to A reoccurring habit of restroom use perhaps during off season. perhaps a lock would just be broken off. I don't have a solution for this.
We loved Antlers Guard Station. It was not too far off a main road, but quiet and peaceful. There was a lot of road traffic on the dirt road passing the cabin, but that is to be expected in an active camping area. The stream was pretty, and full of bird life. The cabin was well equipped,. The only thing was the stove in the front room. The pilot light was on, but there were no instructions for operating it. The nights got down in the high 50's, and it would have been nice to have a touch of heat.
Antlers Guard Station Cabin is accessible via US Highway 30, located approximately 16 miles to the north. Additionally, Interstate 84 can be reached from US Highway 30.
